When it was announced two years ago that Bryan Cranston would play Dalton Trumbo in a new movie about the late blacklisted Communist screenwriter, I wrote an article for National Review that asked a simple question: would the film be honest and portray Trumbo accurately, or would it perpetuate the myth of innocent and victimized Hollywood Reds?
Indeed, because of this piece, the producers and/or the publicity people of Bleecker Street Cinema claimed that I had âtrashed the filmâ in advance and barred me from the screening, thus preventing me from writing about it for a national publication. One could say that Bleecker Street Cinema blacklisted me -- but we all know they are against blacklists...

Pete Seeger, unrepentant communist.

Recently purchased a collection of Elia Kazan flicks, most of which I had never seen before (e.g. A Tree Grows in Brooklyn, Boomerang, Panic in the Streets), and many which I had (On the Waterfront). Included was a dedication from Scorsese. He loved Kazan and referenced that presentation to Kazan at the Awards. He and DeNiro presented Kazan with the Oscar. Many of the attendees sat on their hands, but many others stood and applauded.
I still cry while watching A Tree Grows In Brooklyn......
....well written, deeply meaningful
The commies in the US in June 1941 were protesting against any involvement in the European war. They had signs that said “Stay Out of War” or words to that effect. On the day after the German invasion of Russia, they literally turned the signs around and painted “Join the War Now.”

I have a dear Senior Citizen friend who's dad was an B rated actor that knew Reagan. As a kid he would ask his dad, why are they ( the newspapers ) saying so many things bad about Reagan. The father told his son, no Ronald Reagan is a good man. The SAG opened up basically a HMO for actors and his dad was treated like a king their. Also my friends dad said yes the Communist in Hollyweird were always trying to recruit him. Joe McCarthy wasn't crazy after all IMHO....
Yet the Stalin supporter performed at Obama's 2009 presidential inauguration celebration alongside his worshiper Bruce Springsteen had invited him. Springsteen devoted an entire album to communist Seeger. Obama's on video singing along with "This Land Is Your Land".
I actually liked Reds
Broken naivete
