There are three Republican candidates who can plausibly win the GOP nomination in 2016, former George W. Bush strategist Karl Rove said Wednesday, but he doesn't think Donald Trump is one of them.
Instead, Rove said he'd pick "[Jeb] Bush, [Chris] Christie, or [Marco] Rubio, in alphabetical order," telling MSNBC's "Morning Joe" program that while he can make the case that "probably six or seven people," including Trump, can make the nomination, he doesn't think it's likely that the New York billionaire will win.
Rove said he also sees Texas Sen. Ted Cruz, Ben Carson, or Ohio Gov. John Kasich as potential nominees, but of them all, he believes either Bush, Christie or Rubio will be the eventual winner.

Would you be willing to chip in a few bucks if it meant Trump and Cruz could announce to America that they can’t be bought and sold?
That’s the biggest draw that Trump has — his independence from PACs and lobbyists.
No way that Trump would (or should) involve himself with a go fund me to pay back Cruz’ donors.
I’m not sure I get your idea.
Cruz has plenty of donors. Are you saying you want Cruz donors to get their $$ back?
Yes, not being owned, by PACs, is one of Trump’s best hallmarks.
America already knows Trump can’t be bought. Why would he care about the fact that Cruz is “bought and sold”?
Because the ideal situation would be to have a president AND vice-president who could both say they don’t owe any lobbyist or PACs any favors. (I don’t even know who Cruz big-money donors are. I looked it up a few weeks ago but forgot.) Don’t get bogged down in details. Just think of the big-picture situation where Trump and his VP owe ZERO favors to ANYONE beginning in January, 2017. Hit the ground running and take out the garbage.
Trump wouldn’t / couldn’t be involved directly — it would be up to Cruz and Trump supporters to get it started. But Trump WOULD have to provide at least a tacit approval of the idea or it would never fly. (I don’t even know if any of this is legal, but if it is, then why not? And again, I don’t have logistical details. I’m just bloviating and trying to head off an upcoming war between Trump and Cruz.)
If I were Cruz, I wouldn’t even accept 2nd place unless it was clearly to my advantage. Anything can happen between now and primaries; he could even overtake Trump and give him a good fight. But at what cost? Is he willing to tear the party apart? Because it will. FR is just a small example of what would happen on a very large scale if Trump and Cruz start duking it out. It’s a no-win situation for both of them, imo.
HOWEVER, if Cruz had a way to give back at least some of the PAC/lobbyist money he has taken (i.e., not owe money if he loses to Trump in the end), then he may consider playing it smart, being VP for 8 years, and THEN running for President. He’s young and he’s a professional politician — what ELSE is he going to do with his life? ;-)
Regardless of the above: IF Trump wins the primaries, Trump’s choice as VP needs to be as free as possible from owing anyone any favors. Trump’s team will be stepping on a LOT of toes if they are going to bulldoze through the garbage that is piled neck-deep in DC.
Scroll up and look at the cartoon in #7. I don’t want Cruz to be in that position when all this is over. Because if he and Trump don’t make an agreement of some sort (soon!) before Cruz rises in the polls and becomes a threat, what do you think Trump will do? Sit back and do nothing? It’s not in Trump’s nature. His genetic DNA screams at him to fight like a junkyard dog.
That’s one of his best assets — he’s a fighter to the bitter end. Trump is an honorable person, but he’ll never let someone overtake him without fighting as if his life is on the line. That’s just who he is. EVEN if it’s Cruz who is the challenger.
Let’s just hope they’re already working together. And let’s hope they’re both wise enough and care enough about their country to not let the media pit them against each other in a death dual. Anyone paying attention can see the media manipulation has already started. Liberals are starting to pit them against each other by pushing Trump’s competitiveness gene “trigger.” (”Psssst!! Hey, Trump! Cruz is catching up with you.”)
I agree.
Why would anyone pay any atention to that POS Rove?
Can someone please stop Rove from bloviating all over the place?
I wouldn’t vote for Rubio if you put a gun tommy head!
In that case, Rove will be happy to supply the hand basket for our trip to the inevitable destination.
I will not vote for any Republican Establishment RINO!!! GO Trump (POTUS) & Cruz (VP)!!!
I detest Karl Rove. That said, can you prove Barak Obama won the 2012 election? If you can, please prove why Karl Rove was wrong when he doubted that Mitt Romney lost while the swing states were still in play.
This time the base has had it with the RINOS.
“For me its Cruz or Trump. Accept no substitutes.”
Agreed. I think my new slogan is “Cruz of Trump, accept no substitutes!” (I also have a Porsche, but that’s another topic)
GOP-E Used to hold the cards but with Trump he is self funded they have NO CONTROL over him!!!!! Rove can’t do a thing to Trump only wish his Jebby would win!!!! THAT IS NOT going to happen, NOT this time!!!!!!

Pundits expected the terrorist attacks in Paris to shove the GOPs primary race towards national-security debates and to boost the experienced pols, including Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL).
But the latest Reuters tracking poll instead shows real estate developer Donald Trump consolidating his lead at the top of the crowded GOP field, with just under 40 percent support.
At the same time, neurosurgeon Ben Carson has lost more than half his support, dropping from 26 percent at the end of October to just over 11 percent today. Texas Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX)....
