There are three Republican candidates who can plausibly win the GOP nomination in 2016, former George W. Bush strategist Karl Rove said Wednesday, but he doesn't think Donald Trump is one of them.
Instead, Rove said he'd pick "[Jeb] Bush, [Chris] Christie, or [Marco] Rubio, in alphabetical order," telling MSNBC's "Morning Joe" program that while he can make the case that "probably six or seven people," including Trump, can make the nomination, he doesn't think it's likely that the New York billionaire will win.
Rove said he also sees Texas Sen. Ted Cruz, Ben Carson, or Ohio Gov. John Kasich as potential nominees, but of them all, he believes either Bush, Christie or Rubio will be the eventual winner.

They can try all they want. The masses are just too awake this time. Not gonna happen. Go to a Trump rally if you don't believe it yet. People are pissed. If Trump and Cruz would team up together now instead of risking losing this momentum, then nothing could stop them.
Message to Trump: I think you and Cruz should start a GoFundMe type of fundraising page and ask for contributions to Cruz so we can pay back his donors. Or at least put a big dent in it. Then Cruz (and you) would be free and clear from influence-peddlers and we could MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN and tell all the donors and lobbyists to take a hike. Please work together -- we have too much at stake!

I’d say it’s a good sign for Trump that Rove doesn’t think he will win.

My armchair prediction: If the GOPe rig this process to nominate a 3rd or 4th place GOPe candidate, Trump will go 3rd party and probably take Ted with him. Then Trump will grind the GOPe into the ground and win. He has repeatedly warned the GOPe of this possibility if they are not FAIR with him.

That’s actually good news considering the source.
I don’t doubt that that is highly possible at this point, in terms of the politics.
Although, in the practical sense,, Trump’s ability to do that is somewhat hampered by the various sore loser laws on the books in a number of states.
The more states he qualifies for the GOP primary in the more of an impediment this becomes.
The GOPe are like death row inmates, knowing full well their just due is at hand, but breathlessly hoping there will be a stay of execution. Keeping their morale up by telling everyone they will be saved.
