Russian President Vladimir Putin said Tuesday that Turkey’s decision to shoot down a Russian warplane near Turkey's border with Syria is a "stab in the back" and it would have “significant consequences” for its relations with Turkey, as NATO called an emergency meeting over the incident.

Putin said the Russian Sukhoi-24 jet was shot by a missile from a Turkish jet over Syria about just over a half-mile away from the Turkish border, which he described as a "stab in the back by the terrorists' accomplices." Putin was meeting with Jordanian King

Putin will no doubt destroy the missile site that did this...and a few other things in retaliation. This is how WWIII starts.

I agree it is a stab in the back. Why would Turkey not accommodate and allow Russia to use that airspace? Very curious. I am not a military expert and do not wish to see a war between Turkey and Russia, but I also think Russia should find some way to retaliate. If there are known terrorist locations in Turkey now is the time to take them out.

Is that a bad suggestion?

Maybe. What else should they do? Shame of Turkey for not allowing Russia that space in their fight against terrorism.

My money is on the fact that Obama/Kerry stirred this pot. This is very bad. Isn’t Turkey a member of NATO?

Yeah, Turkey should be suspended from NATO. If we had a rational president, they would be.

Possibly not a missile site but a GCI with no warning to the Fencer
Despite what Turks claim
Russian plane would have been over disputed territory about 30 seconds as it made circle over target being attacked in northern Syria
Someone was nearby waiting and got a lucky shot

Certainly NATO and Russians know what really happened
Pentagon this morning distanced itself from the matter

Why would Turkey not accommodate and allow Russia to use that airspace?

Maybe because they were Cold War antagonists for 50 years?

And chickenhawk Rubio now on Fox is anxious for us to get into a war with Russia. Maybe Rubio should join the military and step up to those front lines he is trying to stir up.

So what? You see what ISIS and other radical muslim groups are going around the world. So I ask again, Why wouldn’t Turkey accommodate the Russian planes?

Turkey’s enemy of that era does not exist. But then neither does the country that won that war.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Protocol_I

“Article 42 outlaws attacks on pilots and aircrews who are parachuting from an aircraft in distress. Once they landed in territory controlled by an adverse party, they must be given an opportunity to surrender before being attacked unless it is apparent that they are engaging in a hostile act or attempting to escape. Airborne troops who are parachuting from an aircraft, whether in distress or not, are not given the protection afforded by this Article and, therefore, may be attacked during their descent.”

Turkey has not signed on to this agreement.
