Putin will no doubt destroy the missile site that did this...and a few other things in retaliation. This is how WWIII starts.

I agree it is a stab in the back. Why would Turkey not accommodate and allow Russia to use that airspace? Very curious. I am not a military expert and do not wish to see a war between Turkey and Russia, but I also think Russia should find some way to retaliate. If there are known terrorist locations in Turkey now is the time to take them out.

Is that a bad suggestion?

And chickenhawk Rubio now on Fox is anxious for us to get into a war with Russia. Maybe Rubio should join the military and step up to those front lines he is trying to stir up.

Since Russia started its bombing campaign in Syria its warplanes have been accused of violating Turkey's airspace on a number of occasions, but each airspace violation has had one thing in common: they have all occurred over Turkey’s Hatay province.

Q: What is so important about the Hatay province?

A: Syria has long disputed Turkey's sovereignty over Hatay province, which boarders Syria’s Latakia governorate, although the international community is in agreement that the region belongs to Turkey. In 2012 a Syrian fighter jet shot down a Turkish F-4 Phantom killing the pilot in the process over the region as well. Moscow knows that the Hatay province is a source of tension between Syria and Turkey- so flying Russian jets near the border serves as a useful way to keep local tensions high while testing Turkey, and by extension NATO's air defenses.

Russisn tourists spend a lot of money in Turkey. I wonder what will happen now? When the Ruble colapsed in 1997, the Turkish economy went into recession. This could be worse.

Hopefully Soetoro won’t try to come to the aid of Turkey (and hopefully none of the NATO articles will be invoked). Let Putin turn Turkey into turkey, but I’m not interested in turning into a Deathclaw.

A Russian military aircraft violated a sovereign nation’s airspace. It was shot down for doing so. You can despise the Turks, love the Russians or vice versa. It doesn’t matter. The action was justified by Turkey.

The Russians know what they are doing and they suffered the consequences of taking a provocative action.

The Turks that shot the parachuting crew? Disgusting animals.

Might be Erdogan’s swan song, the Russians have a long history of their enemies having sudden fatal illnesses and accidents. And if that’s what happens, it couldn’t happen to a more deserving bastard.

The press wouldn’t know a Sukoi 24 from ma mig 29.If it has two wings it’s a fighter plane to them.

The Sukoi 24 is a ground attack aircraft and it would have never had a chance against an F16 in a non-missile engagement.

I’m not happy that the plane was shot down, but at the same time a Turkey has the right to defend its airspace, just like the Russians would if U.S. Aircraft were flying in there airspace.
