Ted Cruz on Wednesday edged into a virtual tie with GOP front-runner Donald Trump in a new Quinnipiac University poll released on Wednesday for the state of Iowa, with Trump retaining a narrow lead of 25 percent of the vote, followed by Cruz with 23 percent, doubling his support from four weeks ago.

By the numbers:

The Quinnipiac Poll was conducted between Nov. 16-22 of 600 likely Iowa Republican Caucus participants, and carried a margin of error of plus or minus four percentage points. In addition, 58 percent of the voters said they might still change their minds.

...

Meanwhile, Carson received the top favorability rating, at 79-15 percent, followed by 73-15 percent for Cruz, 70-18 percent for Rubio, and 59-34 percent for Trump.

....

Meanwhile, just five percent said they would not support Cruz, who got the best numbers in that category:
The voters said the economy and jobs are the most important issues determining who will get their vote, 24 percent of the voters said, followed by 15 percent on terrorism and foreign policy, 11 percent on the federal deficit, and 10 percent for immigration.

...

Cruz, though, was deemed best on foreign policy by 24 percent, followed by 18 percent for Trump, 15 percent for Rubio, and 8 percent for Bush. Carson and Paul each had six percent.

It’s funny just how panicked liberal Trump trolls get when polls say something they don’t like, how they absolutely must haunt every thread that says something they don’t like about other candidates, and how they feel compelled to try to start emotionally-charged fights when anyone dares say something they don’t like about any candidate.

They seem very insecure and not at all confident their candidate can hold it together.

Carson was a way for people to show that race doesn’t control their vote. The fact that he never ran anything like Governors do or was a legislator and lawyer like many others are, or a CEO like Trump and Carly.

Carson on Paper is an Obama but a heck of a lot smarter and certainly very accomplished unlike the community organizer.

The people saw Carson is soft on immigration, doesn’t know foreign affairs, and admits he has a violent side.

People want someone who will keep the USA safe, get jobs back and close the border. Like Trump.

With his brash, abrasive style, and nasty attacks against Carson, Trump has made sure that defecting Carson supporters will not come to him. From the last 2 Iowa polls, it’s clear that Carson’s supporters have defected to Ted Cruz.
........................................................
I LOVE his brash, abrasive style. It’s high time we had someone who calls a spade a spade and doesn’t kiss the ground of political correctness. WE ARE AT WAR to save our country. We MUST HAVE a TRUE AMERICAN at the helm. His name is TRUMP.

Cruz when anybody with a gram of sense knows that FREE TRADE is destroying our manufacturing and adding to our trade deficit. If they want jobs, they’d better wake up to the fact that TRUMP is the ONLY choice!

No... I support property rights and the government OUT of health care. Trump isn't MY choice.

They seem very insecure and not at all confident their candidate can hold it together.

Especially when someone tells them their beloved would not win in a three-way if he decides to go 3rd party. The TrumpLove phenomenon this year is very similar to the Obama-as-Messiah wave we saw in 2008.

Your anti-Cruz SPAM gets rather obvious and boring -- especially when you post it to yourself...

Cluelessness on this order of magnitude doesn’t come easy.

Trump was never going to win Iowa. He’s not a social conservative and those groups have only gotten colder to him as his campaign has gone on. Looks like Cruz has the momentum over Carson now as he should! He is arguably more socially conservative than Carson. I didn’t see Carson showing up to see Kim Davis in prison. And Cruz has so much more going for him in terms of intelligence, knowledge, communication skills and experience than Carson.

Arnold Schwarzenegger argued he wouldn’t be influenced by donors because he was rich too. Didn’t work out so well. It’s a tired argument and just not convincing.

Exactly!!!!! Totally agree. I never ever considered Carson. He does not have the tools this country needs at this point in time. For one thing, He is WAY too soft!

If Trump goes after Cruz with strong criticism or worse, ridicule, it’ll be the end of Trump’s chances to win the nomination. He will turn off so many conservatives he won’t have a chance.

So Trump’s in a tough spot. But, just like Romney, he can win the nomination in the path the GOP paved for the moderate, non-socially conservative nominee with the most money. Trump fits the Romney mold more than any other candidate in the race and the GOP set up the primary to be more favorable to that type of “blue state” candidate this time.

It is. It's surprising to see people so willing to again embrace a cult of personality.

Your “property right” argument pales next to the argument for the SOVEREIGNTY of our country. We MUST secure the border and we MUST put America first in trade which will assure the return of our manufacturing base.

Trump would never go along with the open border policy and importation of MORE foreign workers to the detriment of Americans. Cruz is not forceful enough on these issues and I suspect way to soft on immigration.

This is an election where we, as a people, must put FIRST things FIRST. It takes someone with the GUTS to say NO, it Ain’t-a-gonna be that way anymore! We do not need another lawyer-politician leading our country. We need a PROVEN WINNER to get us our of the morass.

If you call the ability and the willingness to fight, you do not know the meaning of the word “insecure.”
