Newsmax ^ | Tuesday, 24 Nov 2015 | Sandy Fitzgerald

Ted Cruz on Wednesday edged into a virtual tie with GOP front-runner Donald Trump in a new Quinnipiac University poll released on Wednesday for the state of Iowa, with Trump retaining a narrow lead of 25 percent of the vote, followed by Cruz with 23 percent, doubling his support from four weeks ago.

By the numbers:

The Quinnipiac Poll was conducted between Nov. 16-22 of 600 likely Iowa Republican Caucus participants, and carried a margin of error of plus or minus four percentage points. In addition, 58 percent of the voters said they might still change their minds.

...

Meanwhile, Carson received the top favorability rating, at 79-15 percent, followed by 73-15 percent for Cruz, 70-18 percent for Rubio, and 59-34 percent for Trump.

....

Meanwhile, just five percent said they would not support Cruz, who got the best numbers in that category:
The voters said the economy and jobs are the most important issues determining who will get their vote, 24 percent of the voters said, followed by 15 percent on terrorism and foreign policy, 11 percent on the federal deficit, and 10 percent for immigration.

...

Cruz, though, was deemed best on foreign policy by 24 percent, followed by 18 percent for Trump, 15 percent for Rubio, and 8 percent for Bush. Carson and Paul each had six percent.

The best electable man is Trump. PERIOD.

Total rubbish!
At RCP averages, Trump is behind Rubio and even Carson in head to head with Hilary Clinton, and barely does better than Ted Cruz, who is much less well known as at now. Trump has consistently done below par against Hilary Clinton. Where do you come up with this “best electable is Trump” nonsense from?

What are you going to do now?

Stay with a campaign Conservative or whole-heartedly support the best real Conservative in the race?
.........................................................
I WILL Support the only one in the race with the experience, know-how, and ALL-American heart to stop the exodus of American jobs. TRUMP is the only one with the tools to do it!

Cruz supports a 500% increase in H1B jobs. That’s foreign workers taking jobs that should go to AMERICANS.
Cruz supports FreeTrade agreements that send our jobs overseas and weaken our economy with an increase in our debt.

Cruz is NO CONSERVATIVE. If he was he would put AMERICA FIRST!!!

With his brash, abrasive style, and nasty attacks against Carson, Trump has made sure that defecting Carson supporters will not come to him. From the last 2 Iowa polls, it’s clear that Carson’s supporters have defected to Ted Cruz.

Trump, 23 percent
Cruz, 5 percent
Carson, 9 percent
Rubio, 7 percent
Paul, 12 percent
Bush, 26 percent

It's very telling in Iowa that Trump and Bush have nearly equivalent numbers that will not support them, and twice the percentages of the next lower figures. Campaign strategists get as much useful information from these figures as the percentages in favor of a candidate. Trump and Bush have a more firm ceiling to gain any further, whereas Cruz has the most potential to pick up voters.

Outstanding news for Ted Cruz, the master strategist!

And they will continue on that path as well, most likely.

I don’t call it “consistently conservative principles” to go along with the big boss McConnell against his own better sense and the advice of his own advisers! I call it a dodge to then come back and say McConnell lied to him when it was HIS oWN FAULT he SOLD OUT the real conservatives. WHY is he going along with the increase in H1B workers and supporting an issue which COSTS AMERICAN WORKERS. Why does he support FREETRADE when as Donald Trump CORRECTLY says, We are being scammed by the rest of the world and it is time to turn FREE Trade into FAIR Trade! Cruz hhas other weaknesses but these are MAJOR faults because they affect the future of America and America’s strength. HISTORY PROVES that the destruction of a Country’s ECONOMY is the certain DESTRUCTION of that Country!
WAKE UP people, CRUZ IS NOT a leader when he follows his RINO “leader” overboard and enables more destruction of our rights as Americans.

I can’t wait for this to be a 3 or 4 man race.

The top 4 at a debate open to all topics, and rules that favor debate.

But it might surprise you to learn that the majority of Trump supporters have no problem with Ted Cruz winning the nomination fair and square. Either way, we win.

I hope and pray that you’re right.
........................................................
What I don’t like is that CRUZ supporters continually attack Trump supporters, so it is not a reciprocal agreement.

I just hope these two men stay on the issues and argue their positions, not personal traits.

I would like them to work together and take the party away from the Crappy GOPee.

Always amusing when people feel the need to use lots of words in all caps to get across their ultra scary points because they’re afraid simply stating their case won’t work.

Really? Where is Carson now? Looks like he’s fading since Trump woke some people up.

“This time they are head faking you to support Cruz who will not only be abandoned by the NRC but will be run away from by moderates and Democrats. Cruz is a great man and great conservative but he is not electable in a general election.”

No one has to “head fake” me into supporting Cruz, I have supported him all along. Furthermore, the idea that a “great conservative” candidate is unelectable is not a new one — they said the same of Reagan in 1980. In fact, the GOPe was so worried about it at the time, they almost brokered a deal to put Gerald Ford on the ticket — but Ford was too greedy and wanted kind of a “co-presidency”, so the deal (thankfully) fell apart.

I’m tired of the same tired old argument that we have to nominate a moderate to win, when this theory has been proven false in election after election. I think this cycle, as weak as Hillary is as a candidate, there are several on our side that could win — including Trump, Cruz and Rubio (though I have major reservations about supporting Rubio but would ultimately tolerate him). If you mean what you say that Cruz is a “great man and great conservative”, and assuming you are both as well, then I would urge you not to fall for the electability argument and instead support the candidate that most closely reflects your values.
