Wow, was just reading this thread here in Illinois and saw back-to-back ads against ethanol and one for it. Been awhile.
Dr Ben Nyquil just lost Iowa, the gasahol loving state.
Get that crap out of our fuel.
If you search a little I found you can find some independent gas stations that sell ethonal free gas.
Anyone storing gas needs to store ethanol free, it will rmain a quality fuel longer.
“According to Ford spokeswoman Kristen Kinley, Henry Ford’s first four-wheel
engine-powered vehicle, the quadracycle, ran strictly on ethanol in 1896.
When it was released in 1908, the Model T could run on either gasoline or
ethanol or a combination thereof. As the market embraced petroleum, Ford
stopped producing vehicles that could run on either fuel and focused on
gasoline engines. But the first few years of Model Ts could run on either
fuel. “
Nice Headlights...
>> Ethanol is terrible for your car, truck or whatever.
If you use ethanol in your small-engine whatever, you’ll soon have gasoline coming out of your whatever... ‘cause it ruins the little hoses and bulbs and stuff used to plumb your whatever.
Ethanol mandate should be totally killed. Screw the corn belt megafarmers; they’re among the worst corporate gibsmedats in the country.
Until you can buy gas minus corn squeezin’s, mix Sta-Bil into your whatever’s gasanol. Shameless plug for Sta-Bil. It works.
>> I think people are wildly overstating the importance of supporting ethanol subsidies among farmers.
Maybe, but I have run into some pretty rabid pro-methanol big farmers, in person as well as right here on FR. I think there are a lot of them that have built their farm business model on the demand guarantees of mandated ethanol.
The Corn Belt grows corn because it is ideally suited to the former Tall Grass Prairie, as corn is a tall grass. Iowa is going to grow huge amounts of corn regardless of ethanol.
Marginal areas outside of the Corn Belt, as well as pork and chicken producers are among the beneficiaries of corn-based fuel ethanol.
Thanks for the insight.
Note that I am not against ethanol. I’m against ethanol *mandates*.
Farmers and distillers ought to produce all the corn and distill all the ethanol that the (FREE!) market can use!
Every Russian’s dream: 190 proof vodka for $1.50 per gallon!
.Excellent point. Among those contributions was JDR's invention of the railroad tank car, which enabled the economical transport of large quantities of petroleum over long distances. Before the tank car, oil was transported in barrels, as it continues to be priced today.
