Ted Cruz Vows to Vote Against TPP Trade Deal in Iowa
Breitbart ^ | 21 Nov 2015 | Alex Swoyer

GOP presidential candidate Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) said that he would vote against the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) trade deal between the United States and 11 other countries on Friday while campaigning in Iowa.

According to the Des Moines Register, Cruz said he is "deeply concerned" with the trade pact.

"While Cruz said he supports free trade, he believes the Trans-Pacific Partnership would undermine U.S. immigration laws and the nation's sovereignty," reported the Des Moines Register.

"There are a number of Republicans on that (debate) stage who support TPP, who support (the Trade Promotion Authority)," Cruz stated. "I voted against TPA and I intend to vote against TPP."

TPA - Trade Promotion Authority - is the legislation that Congress passed in June that granted President Obama fast-track trade authority so that trade deals - such as the TPP - only get an up or down vote by Congress, which cannot offer any amendments.

"I believe we can negotiate a much better agreement with a strong conservative president than we have with Barack Obama," Cruz stated.

Cruz was visiting the Hawkeye state following a recent endorsement by Iowa Congressman Rep. Steve King (R-IA).

A member of the Republican Party of Iowa's governing board, Loras Schulte, a according to the Des Moines Register, "announced Friday that he would resign his position and endorse Cruz."

ABOUT TIME! Trump has from out of the gate, given the tutorial on TTP and “fair” trade. So did Jeff Sessions.

Regrettable to have seen Cruz go with globalist donors for McConnell and reject the counsel of Sessions.

This is good news.

Trump supported TARP, auto bailout and Porkulus bill.

Trump's Record on Free-market Issue: (from the Conservative Review)

Trump has a terrible record on free market issues. The only bright spot is the Federal Reserve's quantitative easing, but this glimmer is countermanded by his repeated support for bailing out Wall Street and the auto industry, and increased stimulus spending. Of particular concern is Trump's belief that the government can use eminent domain powers to seize private property in the name of private economic development. This comes as no surprise, given his support for using eminent domain to profit his own company.

Trump supported the Supreme Court’s 2005 decision in Kelo v. City of London, allowing public authorities to seize private land for economic development by private investors; Trump said, “I happen to agree with [the decision] 100 percent.” (National Review)  This is no surprise given Trump’s attempt to use eminent domain in his own line of work. (Institute for Justice)

Trump supported President Obama’s 2009 stimulus, saying: “The word stimulus is probably not used in its fullest…you know, certain of the things that were given weren't really stimulus. They were pork, as we call it, or they were gifts to certain people. But overall, I think he's [President Obama] doing very well. You do need stimulus and you do have to keep the banks alive.” (CNN

Trump supported TARP, saying, "You had to do something to shore up the banks, because ... you would have had a run on every bank." (CNN

Trump supported the 2008 auto bailout, saying, “I think the government should stand behind them 100 percent. You cannot lose the auto companies. They’re great. They make wonderful products.” He also said that the federal government could “easily save the companies.” (Daily Caller

Trump criticized the Federal Reserve’s intervention in the debt market, saying quantitative easing creates “phony numbers” that mislead the marketplace and “will not ultimately benefit the economy. The dollar will go down in value and inflation will start rearing its ugly head.” (CNBC

Donald Trump has a history of using eminent domain to complete business deals. Multiple times Trump has supported the use of government agencies to take possession of homes and businesses for use in his private business plans. Eminent domain seizures are reserved only for public use of property rather than abuse by the government taking property from one individual and giving to another. (Washington Post

Donald Trump has sought and received crony capitalist tax breaks for his commercial properties in New York. These tax breaks, and even an abatement, force the property taxes of other property owners to rise at the expense of the connected. Special treatment for one business or industry over another with the tax code conflicts with free market principles. (National Review

In 2009, Trump supported Barack Obama's call for limits on the pay of executives. (CNN)

No mention by Cruz that he voted for TPA before he voted against it? Or, that he voted against after it's passage was certain...and that it's passage ascertained the passage of TPP?

Why didn't he mention that part?

"I voted against TPA and I intend to vote against TPP."

BS. He voted to end the filibuster on TPA, thus helping it over the 60 voted hurdle. Then he cast a meaningless vote against TPA when only 51 votes were required for passage.

And since Ted cast his crucial vote for TPA, only 51 votes will be required to pass TPP. He's not exactly distinguishing himself with this deceptive campaign stance on the issue.

Why didn’t he mention that part?

Because Cruz is a “politician”...and always will be..

He changed his position when McConnell lied to him about allowing amendments to the bill. He first told Cruz he would allow amendments, so Cruz was for it, then when it got to the Senate, he wouldn’t allow them, so Cruz made a speech on the Senate floor that McConnell lied to him, and he wouldn’t vote for it now.

I'll post the links only for people who still want to know the facts.

TPA-1 (good) ==> sausage plant ==> TPA-2 (bad)

Please watch this video. Ted Cruz described the situation around the votes for TPA and Corker's bills.

I’m very bothered that Cruz voted for TPA. What was the deal with that?

I’m also bothered with Trump and his casino empire. Has anyone considered the mafia connections that this must entail to get them open and keep them open?

I know this still makes Trump look like a choirboy compared to Hussein and Hillary and their ties to totalitarians and Islamonazis. Just saying...

I’m a Cruz guy,and the day he voted to let the TPA come to the floor I said it was a big mistake.
Why would anyone give Obama this power, especially with the totally inept and corrupt congress?
It wasn’t smart to give Obama this power, and no amount of parsing is going to change that fact.
The day the vote was taken to pass TPA, I said Obama will get the horrid for America TPP passed on his watch, check my posting history, and I still stand by my call.
It was a bad call by Ted,I’m sure he’s learned his lesson.

No sale. There is no excuse for Cruz’s vote to end the filibuster on TPA, thereby helping it clear the 60 vote hurdle, which was the only chance to stop TPA and about 98% the only chance to stop TPP.

All that laborious and unconvincing explanation from Cruz has been posted many times before. The critical moment was the 60 votes needed to advance TPA and Cruz cast his vote to advance it.

Too little, too late. This will be a show vote.

St Raphael of TPA already set the stage for TPP with his TPA treachery.
