Too many yutes are going to college who should be in trade school for starters.
Colleges need to quit promoting nonsense degrees. They sell them to the foolish, and should only be undertaken by those who can afford to waste time and money, not students who borrow for their education.
Come on, let's not play games with each other. This would never be excused if Cruz or Rubio said it - but now I guess this approach is also conservative like all of the other previously liberal things until Trump says them.
I don’t know what he said, or meant, but the government took over the student loan program under Obama. I don’t think he has yet come up with a plan for this - so, I’ll give him a pass for now. What college grads need are jobs, and for that - he’s on the money.
“You know the one program that the U.S. makes a whole lot of money with is student loans, and that’s maybe the one program they shouldn’t be making money with.”
You’re kidding me, right?
Reading it is entirely consistent with the headline, and very consistent with Trump’s approach on other issues - big government programs.

"They go, and they work, and they take loans, and they're borrowed up, and they can't breathe, and they get through college and the worst thing is, they go through that whole process and they don't have any job... You know the one program that the U.S. makes a whole lot of money with is student loans, and that's maybe the one program they shouldn't be making money with... We're going to do refinancing and extensions," he said. The Grace Commission Report (during the Reagan years) included the (correct) conclusion that switching from gov't direct loans to gov't guaranteed loans would save a fortune and still get the job done. The Demwits won that one of course, claiming he was (you guessed it) "against education".
Just in case other candidates are reading, however, the statement stands (Kasich, are you listening?).
I guess he may be referring to the recent Obamacare takeover of the student loans but previously they just regulated the interest rate and private companies made the loans - but certainly this approach is costing us (the taxpayers) even more money, not making us money. It’s difficult to follow what he means on a lot of things especially in print as people like the way he says things without actually paying attention to the actual words.
His pay is public knowledge. You can look it up.
Unfort., you’ll have the same thing that happened with the housing bubble: You’ll (bank/etc) MAKE loans available, on the cheap, or we (Fed. govt) will put you out of biz.
GOVT is the problem; get it OUT of education, financing and the like.
Hey Don, get a list of the thousands of programs, departments and agencies, then get back to us about creating another F-ing “program.”
Trump is in love with big government programs. He wants to “manage” them himself.
A few days ago he said he liked ethanol subsidies because it employees a lot of people.
I don’t trust Trump. He’s an elitist Manhattanite.
Isn’t it interesting how they make up their own news and the read further and low and behold you find the real words Trump has said....
We don’t have ‘news’ anymore, we just have ‘government controlled outlets’.....
Well, I did read the article. Trump did call for a new government program. That’s the truth. But the Trump fantasy goes on unabated. Trump says something, his supporters hear something else. Trump doesn’t say something, his supporters hear him say something.
“.....I bet it has something to do with democrats.”
Just might seeing as they are the source of all stupid in this country over many generations.
Yeah. You read through a bunch of stuff that Trump said to find the one thing he said that you like, then say he never said the other stuff.
It’s a good thing we have people like ya’ll who can sort through Trump’s syntactic complexity. We all thought what he said was what he meant.
You said.....
“Trump is in love with big government programs. He wants to âmanageâ them himself.
A few days ago he said he liked ethanol subsidies because it employees a lot of people.
I donât trust Trump. Heâs an elitist Manhattanite.”
Yeah but those big government programs will work when he runs them.../s
Seems to me this has occurred previously, within recent memory in fact.
