Anti-Trump Group Wants To Dissuade Supporters ‘From Voting Altogether’
Daily Caller ^ | 11/20/15 | Scott Greer

Posted on 11/20/2015 9:08:37 PM PST by markomalley

A new political group created by a prominent Republican consultant to take down the candidacy of Donald Trump has a unique strategy: convince the flamboyant billionaire’s many supporters to not vote.

According to a Friday Wall Street Journal report, Trump Card LLC has issued a memo to potential donors that its intended goal is to not change the opinion of Trump’s supporters in favor of another candidate, but to keep them “from voting altogether.”

The group, founded by GOP operative and sometime columnist Liz Mair, promises to achieve this lofty goal through a “guerrilla campaign” that attacks the current Republican frontrunner for his views that are atypical of the conservative mainstream.

Some of Trump’s positions that will be highlighted will be his support for eminent domain and past endorsement of single-payer healthcare.

“In the absence of our efforts, Trump is exceedingly unlikely to implode or be forced out of the race,” the Trump Card memo reads. “The stark reality is that unless something dramatic and unconventional is done, Trump will be the Republican nominee and Hillary Clinton will become president.”

The “guerrilla” tactics proposed by the group include fake pro-Trump ads undermining his talking points, attacking the mogul’s business experience, showcasing the apparent similarities between the former reality TV star and arch-nemesis Rosie O’Donnell and even hiring a Trump impersonator to show off his nastier insults.

Mair insisted to The Wall Street Journal that Trump Card is committed to strict confidentiality when it comes to her anti-Trump donors.

“I certainly know donors who are very happy that their fingerprints will be kept off things,” she told the Journal.

Trump Card is aiming to raise $250,000 from donors who support the other GOP candidates not named Donald J. Trump.

Other right-leaning groups have also put Trump in their crosshairs as well. Club for Growth, a group dedicated to fiscal conservatism, has already spent $1 million on anti-Trump ads in early primary states and the organization has boasted that the effort has hurt the mogul’s numbers.

New Day America, a super PAC backing Ohio Governor John Kasich, began rolling out its $2.5 million anti-Trump campaign this week.

Mair, a former staffer for John McCain’s 2008 presidential campaign, made waves earlier this year after she was summarily dismissed from the Scott Walker campaign over tweets in which she disparaged Iowa voters.

Earlier this month, Mair sent out a vicious press release against Alabama Sen. Jeff Sessions over a bill that he had no involvement with. The bill’s sponsor was a different Sessions in Congress — Texas Rep. Pete Sessions.

And then there’s the below. And the fact that some pages of her blog are filled with one story after another of gay marriage getting passed in places.

“They don’t have a “strong” GOPe candidate, where would they get a third party one?’ Walmart.”

They don’t need a strong GOPe candidate. They need a spoiler who can draw 3-5% of the vote in just a few critical states.

The three two Perot third party candidacies in 1992 and 1996 swang the 1992 and 1996 elections to the Dems. In 2000 the third party candidacy of Nader cost Gore a few thousand votes in Florida and Florida’s electoral votes in an extremely tight election. If Nader’s Florida votes had been cast for Gore, the Florida vote in 2000 would have been a Gore win on election night and there would have been no hanging chad recount or Supreme Court case.

Due to the polarization of the country, it only takes a small swing of a 2-3% to affect the national results. As the 2000 election demonstrated a few thousand votes in a key state with significant electoral votes can be the determining factor.

Hillary will have the large urban states locked up, even Trump’s home state of NY. Consider if the GOPe runs Jeb, Rubio, or Kasich third party against Trump. If either took 5% of the total Florida vote from Trump in Florida, Trump would lose Florida and its electoral votes. Third party gets 5% in Florida along with 2 or 3 of the following states and Hillary goes to bed early election night with a big smile on her face: North Carolina, Ohio, Virginia, Pennsylvania, Colorado, Kentucky, Tennessee, Arkansas, Missouri. In reality, giving Florida or Ohio alone to Hillary is probably sufficient to determine the national election which makes a Jeb, Rubio or Kasich third party run compelling if you want to cost Trump the election. Remember the goal here is not to win, it is to play spoiler.

Consider if Republicans make up 30% of the electorate and 20% of Republicans are hard core moderate to left and hate the right wing of the party. That 20% equates to 6% of the total electorate, before addressing those moderate independent voters who might be anti Trump or Cruz and willing to vote third party moderate. These potential 3rd party independents represent another 3-5% of the voters in most stated. If the third part spoiler candidate can get half of the 9-11% of moderate GOP and independent vote every swing state goes to Hillary on election night as well as a few normally GOP states.

By now Jeb and his family know he lacks the personality to win a national election. The Bush family is close personally to the Clinton family. If the behind the scenes donors and power brokers in the GOP decide a Hillary presidency is preferable to Trump or Cruz, Jeb will run and play spoiler in Florida and a couple of other targeted states. If Jeb won’t run, Kasich may be recruited to play spoiler in Ohio and ensure a couple of potential swing states (Pennsylvania, Virginia) stay in the Dem camp. I think Rubio is less likely to go 3rd party due to his age. Whoever runs third party is certainly killing their chances of being the GOP nominee in 2020. However they are also locking in some very lucrative payoffs in the form of corporate board assignments and positions with prestigious law and lobbying firms.

Interesting that the numbers work the same for the Dems. Run Sanders third party and Hillary almost certainly loses. Sanders wins 3-5% of the vote and Ohio, Virginia, Colorado, Pennsylvania, Michigan, Nevada, North Carolina, Wisconsin, Florida and Minnesota all go GOP.

Does the GOPe hate conservatives enough to throw the election if Trump or Cruz is the nominee? Will Jeb, Rubio, or Kasich exchange their presidential hopes in the future to play spoiler for the party elites? Stay tuned.

I don’t believe Sanders will run 3rd party because he can wield more power and influence in the Senate during a Hillary administration than he can as an ostracized spoiler in a Trump or Cruz administration. As a leftist ideologue, payoffs in the form of corporate board seats or head of a think tank don’t interest him. A cabinet position in a Hillary administration or promise of a coveted Senate committee chairmanship when the Dems retake the Senate would likely be enough to keep him on the reservation. After all he saw that Nader became a dead man in the progressive world after Gore’s 2000 loss to Bush. Sanders is now a national figure. He won’t give up his new status to deny Hillary the election through a third party run.

We are talking about the Primary here aren't we?

This is utterly stupid. What possible logical argument could be put forth to persuade a Conservative Republican not to vote?

Conservatives are known for voting in primaries. It's what we do. We vote for the most conservative candidate that can win. We try to primary out the RINO incumbents.

We may be dissuaded from voting for Trump but we will still vote for a conservative and that means we will not be voting GOPe.

These billionaires are wasting their money if they think Conservatives will not be voting because of this campaign.

The primary purpose of PACs is to put money into the pockets of their founders.

Effecting a particular political outcome is secondary.

I never underestimate the treachery of the backstabbing GOP elite. They're not even subtle about losing the election being what they intend to do by stealing the nomination.

Logic tells me the Trump phenomena is different. He has phenomenal support from military, Veterans, and those who vote to support them. Among his peer age group.....older baby boomers and senior citizens, those of us who "get it" that this is not the US we grew up in, his support levels are very high. These are two groups that vote faithfully.

Then there's new voters. There's nothing impressive about hillary to them. Trump with his media savvy does well talking to them.

It's become a non-shooting war. The elite clinging to power by any means necessary. And the "sleeping giant", the US voter, having been awakened by our unlikely hero, Donald Trump.

The closer he gets, the more loonie his opponents, especially here on FR, get. I had one Freeper come completely unhinged and get temporarily banned---and this person was perfectly rational and civil for years.

Trump is like an ultraviolet lamp that when turned on reveals RINO viruses all over the floor.

Is her name Liz or Lez????

Either way - she;\'s a freak who thinks she's smart and has her head screwed on right when it's partially stuffed up her butt - IOW, typical leftist posing as a "conservative"...

Now for a short public service announcement to all on FR:
I prefer Cruz and my money goes to his campaign, hence the Cruz link. If you like someone else, donate to him/her (find your own link to do it) and if you use FR and don't donate, then please don't complain about the welfare leeches or those who have Obama Phones because, functionally, you are no different than any other FReeloader

PS - If you are one of those who cannot afford even a small donation to FR or a candidate, God Bless and happy FReeping!.....

GO CRUZ!! Keep it up Trump!!

Donate to FR

Donate to Cruz

Nope you are correct...and that's why Trump Corporation sent a ‘cease and desist’ letter to the group...and Trump's attorney is not one to play games...

Besides, this ‘woman’ isn't all she's cracked up to be either...do some research, she's a nasty little critter...

..I could see in the last debate that Kasich was one of the tools to try to take down Trump--ain't going to work.

Notice that Cruz and Trump aren't falling for any efforts to get them to start shooting at each other.

These uniparty types are disgraceful...
