I've always been that adult who squeezes in with the kids at their mini coloring table and delves into the arts and crafts right along with them. I may have even snagged a page or two out of their coloring books and created my own masterpiece- and then proudly displayed it to all of the 4-year-olds in the room. But now the doodling dreams of grown-ups worldwide have come true with coloring books for adults. We can unwind with our very own coloring books tailored for an older crowd, containing countless pages of intricate designs. Secret Garden: An Inky Treasure Hunt and Coloring Book by Johanna Basford is topping the Amazon bestselling charts and has sold 1.4 million copies to date, followed closely by her other book, Enchanted Forest: An Inky Quest.
"It's been crazy. The last few weeks since Enchanted Forest came out have been utter madness, but fantastic madness," Eleanor Blatherwick, head of sales and marketing at the books' publisher, told the Guardian. "We knew the books would be beautiful but we didn't realize it would be such a phenomenal success." The books are a wonderful way for adults to relax and get in touch with their inner artist. Coloring the flowers, castles, trees, animals, and other designs allows adults to get creative, and filling them out is like a form of meditation. The books yield gorgeous results that anyone- even those of us who aren't necessarily professionals- can be proud of. Take a peek inside one of the books, and admire some of the beautiful finished products that fans have posted on Instagram.
What's wrong with this picture (no pun intended)?
There’s nothing wrong with this picture. She was simply relating to kids at their level.
I have a friend who has been using these adult coloring books for about a year, as a way to relax. The finished products are beautiful.
I have seen the commercials for these. Simply amazed.
Between the bedwetting garbage on the campuses, and adults drooling on their coloring books, we continue to devolve.
I would say that pacifiers are next, but I have already seen adult versions that were not in “Toy” stores or Halloween shops
This country is so screwed. Buying lots of ammo and canned goods
It’s about time we get over viewing crayons as a child’s tool.

I suppose it’s healthier than hour after hour of internet bingo.
I recall Ozzy Osbourne sitting at his kitchen island with a coloring book years ago on his reality show. I thought it was due to mental fragility. I had no idea this was a thing.
I thought the kids went to school in preparation for relating to adulthood. It is where they’re supposedly headed, right?
Since the ‘90’s, I’ve noticed how it’s the adults who try, try, try, more and more to relate to the children. When I was a kid, we kinda laughed at the adults who tried relating to us at our level. It was like we had our thing and that they should just stick to theirs.
Yes. And better than drinking or drugs.
Rather than sitting with a coloring book...
Maybe... just MAYBE... “adult” Americans should be spending MORE time at the rifle and handgun range, and learning some basic survival skills to protect their families so their KIDS will be able to enjoy the coloring books.
We’re going to need that if things keep going the way they currently are.
Pajama Boy approves!
Those look like fun. Might be a nice creative outlet for some of us with no artistic ability.
I think it’s neat. To each their own and who are we to judge? It’s a harmless hobby.
I actually bought one of these adult coloring books but it’s a Christmas gift for my 8 year old granddaughter. She’s into artsy stuff and I figured she’s old enough. Good thing to do in the winter when it’s snowy outside. The lady that checked me out says she does it in the evenings after work to wind down.
No harm, no foul.
Try the Colorfy app on iPhone. It’s the same thing, only electronic and you can recover from a mistake.
Exactly what I mean. The soldier is glad while the person on the right appears to be ‘happy’.
Well....last Saturday we had 6 people at the range on our property. We shot for three hours, policed our brass and came in as it was getting cold.
We had some chile I cooked that morning, sat and watched football and then played board games and opened up the coloring books.
The whole family with friends were all sitting together, playing games, coloring and enjoying the time together.
We’re in good shape.
More than just a little bit more challenging than a coloring book.
This latest craze is akin to puzzle books, like word searches and crossword puzzles. It’s just the newest hobby or a way to pass time.
Hilarious how expensive these coloring books are, though. Around 8 dollars. Before this craze started, the stores had books filled with designs for adults to color for $1-$2.
