Six things women should consider when purchasing a firearm for self-defense

No gun is a “point-and-shoot” gun.

Most women, by nature, are not fighters, and telling someone to just point and shoot is nonsense. For a woman to pull the trigger, when it could end a life, is an emotional and stressful experience. Even the thought of it makes most women shudder. Advice like this leaves her ill equipped and unprepared for what will be required in self-defense.

Thanks. I’m going in for my first training tomorrow. I’ve already had the two hour safety course. I have arthritis in my left (dominant) hand so I’m a bit concerned. Also, most guns are designed for right handers. hmmm

Jihad & GW are both just weapons in the leftist political elite class goal of destroying the United States.

Heh. Not where I come from.

Rape range is NOT very far.
Don’t worry so much about accuracy—get the controls down pat and you’ll be OK.
(.38 snubbies work just fine IMHO.)

Don’t buy a gun because it looks pretty.

I have yet to see a pink gun that I would recommend for self-defense right off the shelf. Buy a quality gun that will work in Alaska’s inclement weather. Then get it painted any color you wish.

Sorry I had to chuckle at that one.

Just go to the respect gun manufacturer`s websites and do a little online research, unless you plan to buy used.

I`d suggest, assuming you live in a non-commie state, going to a gun range that rents, try a few models and calibers, then order a left hand model of something in a caliber you`ve shot before.

You`ll be able to order it thru a local FFL dealer from the list you researched.

I disagree with her recommending a semi over a revolver for a woman. There is only one action involved in firing a revolver.....pull the trigger.

Consider a semi-automatic instead of a revolver.

I disagree. All of the women I know who carry, carry in a purse. There are too many "snagables" in a purse for my comfort to carry a semi that is racked with a round in the chamber. A revolver is simple and safe, and the heavy trigger should not be an issue with practice, particularly if she learns single action mode on the draw.

Good luck. Is there anyplace near you that you could try a variety of weapons to test out which one suits you best as far as recoil, ergonomics and ease of use? Time to become ambidextrous?

Actually, I prefer a revolver. They never jam, as a semi can do, especially if you break your wrist as you shoot.

My wife carries a .45 ACP Kimber with a Crimson Trace. Her purse is specially made for ladies who carry.

She is scary accurate with that pistol, and easily out shoots me when we go to the range.

Good article. I have had my CHL for nearly two years, but still haven’t gotten around to purchasing a firearm for myself. The 9mm Sig I borrowed from my brother for my CHL course was really too big for my dinky hands. Finding something I like and will be able to use effectively is on my “to do” list!
