Oh my. Wasn’t that about the time that Trump was endorsing the Dream Act? How about addressing Cruz’s position since he has been a Presidential candidate, as we have done for Trump. Instead of trashing him, how about recognizing that Cruz and Trump are the best team for the country?

Trump has his position now. For deportation. What is Ted's? I fully agree Cruz and Trump are the best two out there. I donated to Cruz, before I donated to Trump. I met Ted in NH.

I don't think he can win, but if he does win, I think he would be to a great degree a prisoner of the system, unlike Trump.

I prefer Cruz as AG, then USSC. I hate to waste his great talent as veep. Yeah, if Trump dies, it's the right call, but it's like drafting a #1 pick just to back up Tom Brady "in case" something happens. Most of the time, a veep is a placeholder.

Most of the Cruz bashers are election season trolls. They don’t post for years then show up for primary season to destroy conservatives only to announce their support for the GOPe pick when its done and disappear for a few more years.

The H-1B visa needs to die. There are major law firms devoted to getting big corporations around the requirements. It has been hopelessly compromised.

Ted agrees with deportation, but also that there are effective measure that can also be taken to get illegals to self deport.

I don’t see Cruz in any way being a prisoner of the system. He is young enough to serve with Trump, serve two terms as President and still be on the Supreme Court. There are a lot of folks who would make good AGs, but a talent like Cruz, needs to be in Leadership role.

Show me.

I think Ted has been silent. Which is problematic for thoroughgoing Trumpians.

How about adding the incentive that if they self-deport, they’re allowed to re-apply to immigrate legally in line with everyone else. But if they’re caught and deported, they are banned from ever re-applying legally or re-entering on any visa. That would be the stick and carrot to motivate a lot of them to leave, especially once the deportations get stepped up to show we mean business.

Personally I view this as a successful education campaign of Sen Cruz by the conservative voters. Good for Cruz!

Sadly, Carson has gone the other way.

He also needs to tell us what it means to “streamline legal immigration”. I heard the interview with Ingraham and he still sounds like he favors high, or even higher legal immigration.

Immigration issues have been his weakness along with his voting for TPA, the vote that required 60 to pass, and now he has reservations about TPP after helping its eventual passage over the 60 vote hurdle.

This is Cruz from 2013, in regards to the Dream Act controversy. Since he was for reinstating deporting the dreamers, then it’s safe to assume he’s for deporting any illegals.

Asked by Telemundo whether Romney should reinstate deportations of young people granted deferred action, Cruz said, “I do.”

Trump’s been all for legal immigration, including bringing back current illegals legally after deportation. Which candidate besides Santorum has talked about reducing legal immigration?

Santorum will never be president.

We may be talking 10,000 at the most. I may be a bit low, but I’d like to start low and have someone convince me.

I think you’re close to the mark. Have you listened to Laura’s interview of Ted linked at the beginning of this thread?

Which candidate besides Santorum has talked about reducing legal immigration?

Trump talks about it in his written policy.

Immigration moderation. Before any new green cards are issued to foreign workers abroad, there will be a pause where employers will have to hire from the domestic pool of unemployed immigrant and native workers. This will help reverse women's plummeting workplace participation rate, grow wages, and allow record immigration levels to subside to more moderate historical averages.

By making it probably the most high profile issue of the primaries, Trump has pulled Cruz and others to a more sensible immigration policy. The question is who can voters believe.

I haven’t. There’s not much to be gained by it. I like Ted. I do fear that if he leads the party going into the primaries we will have Rubio to represent us in November 2016.

I cannot believe that after 32 years, the Democrats, Independents, and Moderate Republicans are going to coalesce behind a guy like Cruz. We haven’t nominated a Conservative in that long. Not only that, a number of Conservatives are going to opt for Trump because they too don’t think 32 years of primary history should be ignored.

Trump sells the same things, has the gravitas to succeed, and IMO has just the right background to help get our national debt under control, and pay it down as well.

I would like Cruz on the Trump ticket.

If Ted can pull out the nomination, I’ll gladly vote for him in November 2016. I’ll be supporting Trump, and in truth, I honestly hope it is Trump over Ted.

Thanks for your suggestion.

Just heard a clip on Fox news where Cruz said that he currently favors a moratorium on legal immigration until the illegal immigration situation is under control.

In theory that’s how it’s supposed to be now; companies are supposed to have to prove there are no qualified Americans to fill the jobs. In practice it’s not enforced. I’m not opposed to the theory, but I’m skeptical that it will be enforced any better than other parts of the immigration law. I don’t know if it was a plan, or if Sessions changed Ted’s mind, but I’m always happy when people move in the right direction.
