Republicans declare war on the media at their own peril
WaPo Opinions ^ | 11-2-2015 | Catherine Rampell

Posted on 11/08/2015 8:00:14 AM PST by Sir Napsalot

Republicans want to cut the lamestream media out of the presidential vetting process.

They should be careful what they wish for.

(snip)

Don't be surprised if next we hear of demands for soft-focus cameras, bowls of M&Ms with all the brown ones removed and requirements that questions begin with "if you please, your excellency." .....

And while it's easy to mock some of these demands as petty and prima-donnish, many of them suggest a more insidious strategy: a concerted effort to extricate as much independent journalistic influence from the democratic process as possible and essentially turn the Fourth Estate into a bunch of stenographers.

(snip)

For one, all their whining about mean-spirited media bullying suggests the GOP candidates may not be equipped to handle the rough-and-tumble of a general election campaign, let alone the far more demanding presidency itself, despite tough talk about staring down dictators. A reasonable voter response to such bellyaching might be: If you can't take the heat, get out of the kitchen. Maybe to someplace below 67 degrees.

Secondly, the candidates need the media as much as we in the media need them. .......

Without a doubt.

The media is, or at least was, a “For-profit” venture.

I’ve been saying for years that they could easily get a fourfold increase in their audience and double that within a year by doing a few very simple things.

1. Call out their media peers for their misreporting, under reporting, misrepresentations and both their subtle and overt bias for a thoroughly messed up Socialist State that they promote.

2. Call them out by name. As an example; ABC News could easily show and tell people how NBC is trying to advance this propaganda. It cuts both ways and would create a “media war” that would play out like a soap opera and would easily draw a huge increase in their audiences.

“NBC said this, and they are lying to you and here is why”

“ABC said that we here at NBC are intentionally tying to mislead people”, “Here’s how ABC is trying to mislead you”.

Next up,

“Here is how our Government is using the media to lie to you”. And we actually know because we were once part of this.

It’s the MRC and Newsbusters on crack for everyone to see and would dominate every MSM broadcast.

I’m waiting for an enterprising producer to get control of any one of the big three with the balls and desire to make a profit.

There is a huge pile of money to be made.

Yes, the Compost has no respect for their readers or critics, I was mildly surprised that comments were enabled.

They, the MSM (I.e Washington Compost) haven’t figured out they no longer have a monopoly on available information.

Burns their assets it does.

Catherine Rampell shows herself to be incurably ignorant and incurably biased. She creates a straw man and does not address the very specific complaints that were made concerning the last debate. Rampell is as partisan as she is arrogant.

"Why not? The main stream media has declared war on the GOP."

Exactly.

This silly woman might not know that there are websites such as Newsbusters that have been documenting liberal press bias for years, so that we actually do know what we are talking about when we claim liberal bias.

If Rampell wants to get in a real debate, she can go to Newsbusters and reply to the charges of bias one by one. But Rampell does not want to debate this, she wants to bluster and threaten. Rampell - like much of the press - is a bully.

In recent years, the MSM have become VERY aware that “it isn’t news unless we say it is,” and sometimes they come very close to taunting conservatives with that fact. They can always say that some Democratic scandal is “just a figment of the conservative press.”

"Trust me, dinosaurs, you need these Republicans a whole lot more than they need you. So be careful what YOU wish for!"

Think what would happen to the media if every conservative cancelled their subscriptions and turned off their TV sets.

Think what would happen to the media if every conservative cancelled their subscriptions and turned off their TV sets.

I'd like to think that would serve as a wakeup call, but the truth is, their readership/viewership has been on the decline for decades, and for just that reason, and it has done nothing to deter them. For liberals, the end justifies the means, so if it means losing money while promoting their worthless agenda, they'll take the loss.

Look at all the clunker movies Hollow-wood has produced that feature some trite, worn-out liberal theme. Stinko box office almost every time. Yet they keep crankin' 'em out.

The power of denial is strong in the liberal world.

Oh, piff.

I want to hear less about the horse race and more about issues.

The "journalists" add nothing of value for me.

As Ted Cruz said during the CNBC debate, "Does anyone think any of these moderators will be voting in a Repub primary?"

Post this and Cruz's full statement side by side...which one gets the most thumbs up?
