Houston (LBGT) Equal Rights Ordinance fails by wide margin
Houston Chronicle ^ | November 3, 2015 | By Katherine Driessen

Houston's controversial equal rights ordinance failed by a wide margin Tuesday, with voters opting to repeal the law that offered broad non-discrimination protections, according to incomplete and unofficial returns.

The hotly contested election has spurred national attention, drawing comment from the White House and the state's top officials. Largely conservative opponents of the law allege that it would allow men dressed as women, including sexual predators, to enter women's restrooms. Supporters of the law, including Mayor Annise Parker, argue that it extends an important local recourse for a range of protected classes to respond to discrimination.

Supporters released a written statement Tuesday night: "We are disappointed with today's outcome, but our work to secure nondiscrimination protections for all hard-working Houstonians will continue. No one should have to live with the specter of discrimination hanging over them. Everyone should have the freedom to work hard, earn a decent living and provide for themselves and their families."

The company I work for is in Houston. A lot of the businesses that we have contracts with are saying they would move out of the city if this crap passed.

“Soon to be overruled by some liberal Federal judge.”

Probably. People, especially legislators, need to get it through their thick heads that judges issue OPINIONS. These OPINIONS are not LAWS. For these opinions to become law, a legislature must agree with these opinions and pass appropriate laws that give judicial opinions the force of law.

Finally, people need to understand that only legislatures may write laws. Judges can’t write laws. Period. Exclamation point.

Will it matter when the courts step in and mandate it?

Actually, Texas Supreme court is the reason the original mandate from the city was thrown out, and put to the voters to decide.

The voters sent a message to the Politically Correct Left. Don’t go telling us what to think or believe and then accuse others of intolerance if it’s not what you think.

The average American says yes to tolerance, but HELL NO to state sanction.

The left may have yesterday have gotten using a football term, the “two-minute” warning and in this case, this two-minute warning is from an America growing angry and fed up with the left.

I’m so disappointed. I was looking forward to the lesbo mayor STANDING next to me while taking a leak. /s

She claimed the opposition lied. Everyone ad they ran was full of lies. One implied it would be legal to discriminate against vets if the proposition failed.
