Ben Carson has surged into the lead of the Republican presidential race, getting support from 29 percent of GOP primary voters, according to a brand-new NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll.

That's the highest percentage any GOP candidate has obtained so far in the survey.

Carson's 29 percent is followed by Donald Trump at 23 percent, Marco Rubio at 11 percent, Ted Cruz at 10 percent and Jeb Bush at 8 percent. These findings are similar to a New York Times/CBS poll released last week, which also showed Carson in first place in the national GOP contest.

“But either a Carson or a Trump supporter is likely to be reasonably happy with Cruz.”

Do you know any Carson or Trump supporters? I can guarantee this Trump supporter would not be the least bit happy with Cruz and would not vote for him under any circumstances.

"Gingrich had the best chance of winning the general last time. But with Santorum siphoning off the whole evangelical wing, they paved the way for Romney."

That is how they planned to get the nomination for Jeb this time but thanks to Trump it hasn't worked out that way.

My how 2 or 3 months make a different amoung the Trump supporters.

Back in August the Trump supporters were cheering on the very same NBC/WSJ polls and making declaring that Donald Trump is inevdible, he is going to be out next President.

Now since Carson is leading Trump in these very same polls, the polls are suspect, some how the MSM is out to get Trump.

Excuses, excuses by the Trump supporters.

I don’t mean this in a critical way but please do some research on Carson.

He has said some very concerning things that you might want to consider.

Check out his comments on Ferguson and Sharpton for a couple of things.

The opportunistic behavior you note is what rubs me wrong with Trump and his supporters.

Trump’s gaffes and 30 years worth of a controversial public record will be able to be weaved into a lot of negative ads.

But all of Trump's potential negatives are taken out when you consider:

1) He fights, which is how he's survived the McCain comments, the invented "sexist" comments, the invented "rape" accusations.

2) Hillary Clinton will be the nominee (the fix is already in for the Democratic side) and will have far worse negatives.

As for Ted Cruz, Cruz can easily be attacked by just running video of his father, Rafael Cruz, preaching before Dominionist crowds detailing how the Christian church is split into two groups: the Kings and Priests, and it's the Kings' job to gain dominion over society and funnel all the money to the Priests. After that, they can then hit Cruz for his obfuscations on immigration-- which most leftists are already familiar with, even if Conservatives aren't. And finally, there's just Cruz's own unlikability after that. Cruz comes off fake, rehearsed. This is how he comes off to normal people.

Cruz will lose the general by a great deal.

Now they are poo looking the very same NBC/WSJ polls that they were cheering on back in September and Aug.

Why are those very same polls they were accepting and cheering on now suddenly suspect ?

They make all kinds of excuses for Trump, even his H-1B visas hirings.

I have begun to hear these negative things about Carson, as you note. If true, they certainly are concerning. But I have been around long enough to know not to take such claims at face value. So, more research is called for. I appreciate your raising such things to my attention.

This is pathetic. The poll is showing Carson on the rise, but Carson didn’t even have a rally or any event (by himself) to draw more than 1,000 people.

If Carson can draw crowds of at least 1,000 on a consistent basis, then I would believe some of these polls. Because if he did, the MSM would have covered these events on live TV. Only Trump can draw big crowds and supporters.

So... Where are all the Carson’s supporters? Where are they??? On Facebook?

I forgot to add that Trump would likely win the Blue Collar vote. He leads them already with 60 percent likability. They support him because of his position on trade deals. Hillary Clinton flip flopped on TPP, then suggested a future flip, saying she might suddenly come to favor it again in the general!

Cruz will not win any cross over votes.

Why are those very same polls they were accepting and cheering on now suddenly suspect ?

Because nobody has seen any evidence of a Carson surge. No huge rallies.

Trump does seem to contradict himself a lot. Not a trait we respect in Hillary, is it? Now, to give him the benefit of the doubt, maybe he is correcting his spokespeople who garbled his message. But that is not an encouraging thought either.
