Donald Trump Can't Hold a Wheelie Forever (Freedom of Religion and Property Rights)
American Thinker ^ | October 30, 2015 | Geoffrey P. Hunt

Posted on 10/31/2015 4:21:50 AM PDT by Cincinatus' Wife

Donald Trump grabbed many of us with his immigration hole-shot. His all-purpose chlorine bleach burn-outs wiping out political correctness have been equally spectacular-not just for the strutting, but for calling out to the NHRA grandstand-crowd, the erstwhile silent disenfranchised majority.

All Donald had to do was keep his front end under control. Wheelies can be entertaining, but they usually lead to the wrong end of a bill of sale.

But no: Trump couldn't resist cracking open the nitrous bottle when he should have pinched the valve and locked it away in the trunk. Soon enough, our quarter-mile rooster will need a tow back to the trailer apron.

First he dissed God. Now he's dissed non-conformist Christians. In the meantime, he dissed property rights, the handmaiden to religious liberty. C'mon, Donald-what's wrong with you, man?

SNIP

When Donald disparages Ben Carson's faith, and Carson's longstanding adherence to the doctrines of Seventh-Day Adventists, Trump trashes the core of American exceptionalism-religious liberty and religious toleration. Haven't we seen enough of that from Obama?

Liberty and limited government were envisioned and launched by non-conformist religious sects-or, as Trump harrumphs, "fringe denominations."

SNIP

While Trump's disdain for religious diversity is bad enough, he assaults the accompanying bedrock of American liberty-the right to private property. This is no benign musing of narrow circumstances, where eminent domain via the Takings Clause of the Fifth Amendment occasionally elbows out due process for purposes of "common good."

We know that, but I for one haven’t lost faith in you. :-)

I could hold a wheelie.

Schwinn World Traveler III.

I used to ride 3 miles to a friends house and back without letting the front wheel drop.

Couldn’t do it no handed though...

I listened to Trump on eminent domain. The property owner gets paid extremely well. I know a case where they made 3X fair market value. He implied it was more less a win/win for everyone. I didn’t hear him say he wanted to take everyone’s land away.

On Pam Geller and the draw mohammed cartoon. She knew that would draw anger, attention and the threat of violence. As Trump said, maybe she likes risk. Maybe she does.

On Ben Carson, he said he didn’t know about 7th day Adventists. I don’t either. What was wrong with that?

Trump isn’t my first pick, but I would have no problem voting for him.

——I listened to Trump on eminent domain.——

it really doesn’t matter. The SCOTUS has ruled on the matter

Did he say Lowry should be prohibited from expressing his opinion?

I must have missed that.

The Left has actually petitioned the FCC to REVOKE the broadcast license of FNC....now THAT’S a violation of free speech rights.

Why do you think he said "I don't know?"

You need to get off this anti-Trump jihad. I get it that your boy, Walker, flamed out. But there is only one person who can actually make changes in DC. It's not Cruz. It's not Rubio. It sure isn't Carson.

Agreed. Attempts to demonize Trump are foolish. Deal with him on the merits of his espoused positions.

IMO, Trump’s taste for eminent domain land grabbing is in his minus column.

Actually I think Donald Trump can hold that wheelie. He kept his TV show going for about a decade. He knows how to continue to generate interest and stay in the spotlight. This has been his advantage in the race so far — he understands “the game.” We (excluding members here) are no longer a culture that will watch a serious debate with thoughtful questions and answers. We are an immediate-gratification culture, a sound-bite culture, a celebrity culture. And Trump is playing that like a fiddle. And it might send him to the White House.

“He and Hillary have more in common than they have in opposition.”

That is simply not true to the point of being slanderous. If you don’t believe me try saying that on a left wing political site. They;d ban you for that statement.

The only way you even make the claim is to use statements made by Trump from years ago that he has since recanted - also years before he announced his candidacy and believe those over the more recent positions OR you are simply bitter or ignorant.

The “Trump does not respect imminent domain argument” also appears to me to be flawed. It is, or so it appears based upon ONE SINGLE incident (Or at least those making the case use the same incident over and over with no reference to any others) but more than that when the courts ruled against Trumps’ firm he walked away. He did not use undue influence upon the court or engage in any illegal activity.

He did not ignore the law but tested the limits of the law. The Clintdog has shown time and time again that she feels that she can ignore the law and cannot be compelled to abide by court rulings.

The people that you should be upset with is the legislature of the State of New Jersey who wrote the imminent domain laws of that state in such away that the question as to whether it applied in the specific case or not spelled out clearly.

Donald Trump is to today’s republican voter what Obama Hussein was to the democrat voters in 2008.

Lets see, one has a crazy following because he promises free stuff and anti American screeds, the other is popular because he wants to close the borders, deport illegals, fix the economy, blows PC garbage out the window and refuses to kowtow to ANYONE.

Hmmmm, your hypothesis just doesn't seem to be jiving here....

The premise, which I do not accept is he is doing a wheelie. He is driving a tank, armed with conservative ammunition and guided by a conservative base ready to attack the progressive monsters we have allowed (foolishly) in our midst.

What's so funny to me....is that the most rational reasons to support Trump generally come from Cruz supporters who would readily support Trump if he's the nominee. Now your analogy above is good, but I would warn you...not every monster the tank is going to fire it is a progressive one. That tank fires a good number of shots from it's left pointing gun. That's why he is not my top candidate.

None of our rights are absolute.

BS, perhaps you should revisit the preamble to the BOR.

Spewing that libtard claptrap around here is a sure bet for a one way Kitteh ride.

Please don’t let the facts get in the way of someone’s overstatements of Trump’s commentary, multiple times.

There is one complete enemy running against us: Hitlery. Unless the FBI can derail her into a jail cell, which is looking less likely every day as part of the evidence needed is being withheld by O dork, that is the villain here especially if one is concerned about the immigration fiasco that NONE of the other candidates addressed until he stepped up. Trade was another. Trump has laid out his 2A stance in crystal clear language, and it is not different than what he put in a book or other writing sometime ago. I recognize I am not getting the full loaf with him but I like what I hear especially the fact he is financing his own way.
