Sgt. Casey Day was skeptical. The chief of his rural Northern California police department wanted him to find out if an ancient martial arts weapon made famous in 1970s Bruce Lee movies could be used to subdue unruly suspects.
But it only took a few days of training with nunchucks to win over Day. The weapontwo solid sticks of plastic attached by a foot-long nylon cordwas recently added to the Anderson Police Departments arsenal.
The department of 20 sworn officers about 200 miles north of San Francisco joined several other U.S. law enforcement agencies that use nunchucks as less than lethal weapons 20 years after their popularity peaked.
Day says the weapons have the impact of traditional night sticks but also allow trained officers to quickly bind wrists or ankles to control a suspect without violence.

Very easy to kill with a set of these things ....
Approaching from the side, you slam one stick into the target’s throat, while crossing your hand to catch and lever the other stick as it swings behind the neck ... Then, with arms crossed you lever pull the two sticks together, using the victim’s neck as a fulcrum. This action instantly crushes the trachea and the the atlas-axis vertebrae. (You will hear a hollow clunk sound as the vertebrae crush and collapse.) Death is almost instantaneous.
These cops are idiots for using the device rather than a night stick ... and they are setting themselves up for lawsuits.
They are using a weapon that is illegal in California?
So, they have special rights?
YES!
This is it!
This is exactly what our fearless, zealous overlords need!
More ways to strike and hurt people.
They should also have an entire panoply of pointy sticks, nunchucks, cat o’nine tails, butt plugs, bull whips and switchblades too.
I think that a mohican haircut and lots of tattoos help them do their job better too.
OH, and mirror sunglasses.
Oh... and lots of black leather. Maybe some rubber underwear...
Did I mention steel-toed kicking/stomping boots and sap gloves?
Yoose godda prollem wit dat?
I wonder what the charge is if you connect two bananas to a chain?

Sounds like a ‘togetherness’ present at a gay wedding.
Well, I don’t imagine that they would bind anyone’s throat with them, but gripping someone’s wrist or ankle with nunchaku is very effective in the same way.
The pressure applied to those bony areas would be ridiculously painful. A cop would have complete control of a suspect with minimal effort.
He better be “ridiculously” well-trained; because, when the Adrenalin is coursing in a high risk situation, the chance of easily breaking bones is very high.
search you tube for “ Bruce Lee Ping Pong” to see some seriously sweet nunchuck skills. I’d link to it but it’s too difficult on my old iphone.
Yeah, that’s definitely true.
It takes very little effort to hold a person, and if any yanking or twisting went on or too much pressure applied, bones would break for sure.
You haven’t seen Bruce Lee place ping pong with nunchucks, have you?
Oh, good LORD!
I’ve been able to effectively utilize nunchaku since I was seven years old. And, I have YET to whack myself in the head or any other bodily areas that would disable my fighting stance.
The secret is knowing where each section of launched stick id going to go, and knowing that that stick used to impact one’s opponent will, “BOUNCE,’ and how to recover from it.
Nunchaku is a weapon that screams discipline.
Dual nunchaku is an all together different animal.
Done correctly, it is a very beautiful martial art.
Exceedingly dangerous weapon.
Cops have been using tonfas for about 30 year now. Much simpler use and very versatile.

Thought this was a back scratcher.......
I gotta problem with ....
Sure, until “black lives” suddenly “matter” once more.
I don't know, but if you're convicted, there's no a-peel.
Having trained with both I find Nuchucks to be a better impact weapon if you want to inflict greater damage.
I find the PR24 a better impact weapon for control.
