The head shot is suspicious. There may be a good reason for it but police usually go for a center-mass shot.
A headshot with a pistol smells like a deliberate act. It’ll be interesting to find out if there is a body camera to support the police officer’s actions and, if not, it’ll be equally interesting to see if the dead boy had powder burns on his head.

It doesn’t say how deep the water was, or if the dog was in the way. The officer may not have had much to shoot at. If that's the case then the boy's hands were under water and not posing an immediate threat. Shooting someone who is swimming away is not at all defensible.
It's also an impressive shot. That's why I'm curious if there are powder burns. Especially on the BACK of his head.

The officer and the police dog are being checked out. Officials say they did not suffer serious injuries.So the 15 year veteran felt that his only choice was to shoot the perp in the head? It makes no sense. Was the perp armed? There has to be something wrong with the way these stories are being reported.

No offense, but if he was then the cop who fired the shot was being reckless and endangering another cop’s life.
The details of the story just don’t square up for me.
