We are still months away from the Iowa Caucasus, the betting line is not the election. As they say in sports, that’s why we play the games. After super Tuesday the field will thin, but if they can stay solvent there is no reason for a low polling candidate to suspend their campaign prematurely. I heard the interview and frankly Trump came off as if based on his polling he is entitled to the nomination and a little petty toward the rest of the field who do not have his resources. At least that was my immediate reaction. On the positive side, his corporate tax cut is good policy, but should also have some spending caps to go with it.

I think of Santorum as the present-day Harold Stassen.

Hope someone does ask Trump about it. He might (probably would) clarify that it isn’t some big deal, by way of example.

Stassen started running in, I believe, 1944 and certainly 1948. He was still running in 1980. I think Stassen was younger than Clinton when Stassen became governor of MBN in, what, 1941? Stassen didn’t run when Eisenhower ran, did he, certainly not in 1956. He was running against Goldwater and Reagan.

Actually, Santorum is probably my second choice, after Cruz, but I can’t see him winning any county anywhere.

MBN should be MN (Minnesota).

I also remember him running in 1968.

I think he rented an old Kentucky Fried Chicken van for his campaign bus in Florida that year.

I wonder why, too. If I were polling as low as some are, I would get out, go home and stay there. Never to be seen again!

Other candidates are staying in the race probably because they are spending other people’s money to do so.

An oversupply of professional “for President” hacks like Santorum and Huckabee. They make a profession of running for President but have virtually no chance.

Eh look at the last election to see why they stay in: Everyone had their chance to be top dog for a week or two as a fickle base hopped from candidate to candidate.

You mean top dog ‘in the polls’. Only Santorum (and Romney) earned as many as 10% of the national delegates.

Debut medial exposure and name recognition for consideration in future elections. Sometimes they even get lucky the first time out.

Yeah that’s what I meant. By the time the delegates actually started things had mostly stabilized with Santorum being the last “flavor of the month” up against Romney.

I imagine Pataki is thinking that if he waits long enough it’ll be just him and Trump in the race. At that point his .0001% support could turn into as much as .001% support!

They'll give the show back, if it got high enough ratings. Low risk decision for Huckabee, to divert his time to support the GOP cause.

National politics is a rough sport, where opinions are delivered in an exaggerated manner,to show what you do or don’t support. I personally liked W.most the time, but right now it’s Jeb! who is running for the top job. Thusly, what Trump is doing is fair if not polite. Trump knows if he appears to slam GWB, his brother Jeb is almost forced to come out, come out, wherever he is, to defend W, and by proxy the family name. Trump has put Jeb where he wants Jeb to be, once again in a defensive posture, trying to defend his brother and correct a common perception.
Trump has Jeb!, once again. leading from behind, a passive method to
