Faith-healing couple who prayed..on their dying baby instead of calling 911 WILL go to prison [tr]

An Oregon couple who prayed and rubbed olive on their dying son following a home birth rather than call 911 and seek help will continue to serve six years in prison each after a judge upheld their manslaughter conviction. Dale and Shannon Hickman, both 30, were both convicted in 2011 of second-degree manslaughter for the death of their son, David, who died nine hours after his home birth in 2009. David was born two months early at his grandmother's home with undeveloped lungs, and died after having trouble breathing and turning blue. The Hickman's - members of a controversial faith-healing church in Oregon - had appealed their conviction, on the grounds that the prosecution had the burden to prove the couple knew their religious beliefs would cause the death of their child, The New York Daily News reported. But the plea was rejected by the Oregon Supreme Court last week. Last week a judge rejected an appeal made by the couple and reiterated that they could have done more to try and save their son.

Nine hours. Infant suffered nine hours.

This is what control freaks look like. Disguised in prayer, they do nothing, but cause suffering and death— a sin of omission.

In PP case, PP is what control freaks look like. Disguised in the Constitution, they act, but cause suffering and death, a sin of commission.

What was their intent? Something can't be a crime without intent.

You need to brush up on the definition of manslaughter and things like "criminally negligent homicde" and "reckless indifference."

The Dear and Glorious Physician.

Science is now the forced government religion of the State. The government/corporations now control the allowed “truth” and they control all the allowed outcomes of studies at universities. It is now an industry to control people’s perceptions (by fear) and normalizing drugs for control of emotions (instead of religion/Virtue). Stalin knew to take over a culture you use the medical system to make the sane “mentally ill” and have the mentally ill be the masters. We now have a point in our medical system which calls evil, vile use of the human body “Good” and “Normal” and the Marxist gender theory (insanity) is forced into all schools and literature and MSM.

You will believe in what these “scientists”—the annointed ones— say or else you will be punished and persecuted. Science SAYS men can be women and Up can be Down and it is “good” to kill babies and it is “good” to kill the old useless eaters and Global Warming is “True” and if you deny it, you lose your job or position at all elite universities or your business.

Goodbye to self-initiative and freedom and “thinking outside the box” which made America “great”. You are a slave to science and the State (which is unconstitutional).

I learned in Philosophy of Science course that scientists NEVER have the Truth. NEVER!!!!!! So why do we allow them to act like God??????? Everything they “think” is subjective and bought and paid for by corporations and power corrupts.

Wisdom is discerning Good and Evil and obviously “science” have been taken over by Marxists and are extremely dumb when they call Jenner a “she”. They are totally irrational (and evil) and removed from Reality and Truth/God.

I agree. Listen... I completely understand believing in a higher power. When I pray for FReepers that are going through medical issues/or personal ones.. I ask Our Lord for guidance and knowledge of the doctors/surgeons/nurses. Why in the world would one believe that a doctor’s hand CAN”T be blessed by God? IMHO... medical knowledge has improved not only by research but as a gift from our Lord as well. These parents used olive oil and prayer and could have also used the knowledge of a doctor. Just my two cents....

That's a nice sound bite for the people who claim conservatives are waging a "war on science" to use against us.

I cant believe the first post was what i was thinking.

God gave us the knowledge to heal people that could never have been helped 100 years ago. or even 20 in some cases.

That IS faith based treatment. We have faith that God gave us the ability to develop good treatments for the ill.

That child was also a citizen of the USA, a human being, not the property of the parents, and was entitled to the protection of the state. And the state has a duty to prosecute murderers. Hopefully, the next time members of some god-forsaken cult think it is okay to deny a helpless child life-saving medical care (modern medicine can save 28-week preemies) will not force their ideas on a helpless child and allow him to die if it means 30 years in prison — or better yet, the death penalty.

Let them suffer the same fate they chose for their child. Let them die for their beliefs, just as they let that innocent child die for their beliefs. Those parents and every one else who failed to dial 911 got off lightly. It is premeditated murder and conspiracy to commit murder. That baby is dead and should not be!

You call yourselves “conservative,” yet the first very first tenant of conservatism (classical liberalism) is the right to life (liberty, and pursuit of happiness) and we the people have given state the responsibility to protect the lives of the citizens, and if that fails, then to find and punish the killers.

One of the reasons I think we are in such trouble, is that we do not think things through clearly. Sometimes things are absolute, and this is one of those things. Religious liberty cannot be allowed to infringe on the civil rights of others, or break good laws, and this most certainly does!

But the doctors would have at least taken the shot.

This is like the story of the guy who climbed to the roof of his house during a flood and prayed to God to send him a sign. A boat came by but he refused to get in because he was waiting on a sign.

“In everything give thanks”

Sadly some people are so wooden headed they have no idea how scripture is to be read. Context Context Context.

Pray for the sick and they shall be healed does not limit one from taking other actions as far as I read it!

Im not sure in what sort of context to take your response.

what might it have to do with taking rather simple common sense measures to keep ones family ALIVE. or not?

Not all physicians are corrupt monsters...are they?

God gave us brains...to use...

Why SOME people refuse to used them is WAY beyond my scope of understanding.

What would this couple have done if they had needed emergency surgery for a severe injury?

theres a possibility that they are part of a fringe sect....who do not “believe in” modern medicine.

or they could just be irresponsible dunderheaded children...

>> “wasnt there a guy name Dr.Luke in the Bible?” <<

.
No! - There is no evidence that Luke ever practiced the pagan healing arts. Paul called him the beloved physician once, for his spiritual healing successes.

Here is what God says about doctors:

Jeremiah 17:

[5] Thus saith the LORD; Cursed be the man that trusteth in man, and maketh flesh his arm, and whose heart departeth from the LORD.
[6] For he shall be like the heath in the desert, and shall not see when good cometh; but shall inhabit the parched places in the wilderness, in a salt land and not inhabited.
[7] Blessed is the man that trusteth in the LORD, and whose hope the LORD is.
[8] For he shall be as a tree planted by the waters, and that spreadeth out her roots by the river, and shall not see when heat cometh, but her leaf shall be green; and shall not be careful in the year of drought, neither shall cease from yielding fruit.

Perhaps Gods WILL was to have these people take the fragile newborn CHILD...HIS CHILD to the hospital?

were it bleeding to death from a visible wound should they have neglected to BIND UP the WOUND themselves?

would they not have been acting as ...PHYSICIANS?

What?

Do you think that God is powerless without doctors?

There is not a shred of evidence that any doctor would have been any more effective in treating the child.

They could have kept the child in agony in an incubator for a week or two, and then watched him die too.

If God had some special will for the child to live, could he not have kept him in the womb?

.
