Window might be closing for a Joe Biden presidential run. Here's why
Los Angeles Times ^ | 10/09/2015 | Michael A. Memoli

Weeks, even months of mixed signals from Vice President Joe Biden about his presidential intentions are increasingly testing the patience of Democrats who have otherwise been sympathetic to his family concerns, and the window of opportunity for him to emerge as a desired alternative to Hillary Rodham Clinton’s candidacy appears to be shrinking.

Since resuming work in late summer after the death in May of his eldest son, Beau, the vice president has alternately stoked speculation that he might join the Democratic field and said he lacked what he called the emotional fuel to do so.

But factors beyond his control are intruding on Biden’s deliberations. Outside ruminations on his tragic personal history have had the inadvertent effect of giving his grief an off-putting veneer of opportunism. On Thursday, a person close to the vice president said Biden was hoping that a group backing him would not air a widely publicized ad that refers to his family tragedy.

The group, Draft Biden, subsequently announced it would not air the ad.

At the same time, the White House has been deferential but has increasingly hinted that it is ready to move on. And talk of a Clinton campaign collapse has eased as her standing in the polls has stabilized before the first Democratic debate Tuesday.

One longtime Biden associate, who months ago thought the vice president could afford to sit out some of the first nominating contests if needed, said he has become less sure.

“I don't know,” he said, echoing others close to the vice president who would not be named discussing private conversations but also expressed new doubt that he’ll ultimately join the race. “If she collapses, he can. I'm not so sure she's going to collapse.”

Logistically, time is running short as well.

“Since resuming work in late summer after the death in May of his eldest son,”

Took a few months off, I see. The media wouldn’t let GWB take a long weekend. Typical.

Delay works to his benefit. (If he’s running).

Better he stays out. Hillary is getting more beatable by the day.

biden does well in polls and if he runs with that story that his dying son told him to beat clinton, he’ll get a lot of sympathy vote.

like i said before, all cases are different, but the two people i knew up close and personal who died of cancer could not utter a word in their last days, no less discuss politics.

my 90 pound uncle Ralph, who i love and miss and have a tattoo of him name on my arm along with uncle Jimmy (battle of the bulge) and father, couldn’t utter a word the last week.

i was 20 and he pointed to the other couch in the room and i lifted him and lay him down there.

Biden using this story (which i think is fake) disgusts me to no end.

The reports are that he is going to make an announcement in the next week or 2

The constant “will he or won’t he” back and forth has gone way to far, IMO. I am bored to the point of disgust every time I see a story on it. Biden is a nasty, dirty old man ... his latest comment on the “homophobes” all running on the Republican ticket or some similar comment was offensive. He gets a pass because he’s the “Gaffetastic Uncle Joe”, people snicker when he lets his fingers do the walkin’ all over the women folk & kids and he is supposed to be some sympathetic character, especially after the death of his son who he’s arguably using for political purposes; however, he’s also Obama’s sidekick, supported every single thing Obama has done, and helped him implement his “destroy America” agenda. He’s a treasonous weasel, same as his boss.

He’s just waiting for Boehner to quit.

Window might be closing for a Joe Biden presidential run.

The party "Big shots" could probably Bully Joe into running in case Hitlery falls further on her ass...but his Heart wouldn't be in it.
Retire gracefully, Joe and enjoy life. Go out a winner.

Listen, Dems. Keep your eyes on the watch as it swings back and forth...

Hillary is the best you’ve got, Hillary is the best you’ve got, Hillary is the best you’ve got,...

I hope they are right. Democrats vote for idiots or crooks unless something goofy comes into play.

When a Democrat politician dies, it's considered an opportunity for voter outreach.

Note the Clinton lip implosion:

I get that, dearest. And I get that the community and the extended families of those assassinated by that creep in Oregon, who was 26 and still living with mommy in an apartment arsenal, are repulsed to see the agenda driven Barack Obama swoop down and force a huddle with the families of the deceased.

I just don’t see how the families agree to do it, honestly. Maybe if they want to tell the prez that if their child had only possessed a gun on their person they would be alive today and the bad guy dead! I might could see him for that reason, but even then, not for a second longer than getting that rant off my chest.

I hope they met him to tell him they were killed for being Christians and if all of them were armed, maybe 2 people (still too much) would have been hurt or killed.

I would then remind him that the Romans and Huns did a pretty good job of killing without guns.

Old uncle Joe may get a little of the sympathy support but how is he gonna shed his insider Washington, DC credentials?
Any Dem ( scarce few) who would want some modification at least of BammyCare can kiss all that bye bye if Joe the slow gets in somehow.

All the wise guys say he will announce, but I am not so sure. Recall that Calvin Coolidge declined to run for reelection after the death of his son. Biden must be grieving, and that undermines the motivation it would take for him to mount a national campaign.

Exactly. Its the Hillary camp that desperately wants him to commit, to take the focus off of her.

Jeez, it's just so obvious anymore that the media is in the tank for her.

“Delay works to his benefit. (If he’s running).”

Exactly. IF he is running this is a perfect strategy. He is right now running against Hillary without any penalties! He doesn’t have to take any hits from debates or policy positions or have to answer a litany of questions. All the while Hillary has to do all those things and is taking a beating. This article makes me think the LA Times is getting orders from Hillary’s camp to try to push the Biden camp into the fray because they realize this looks like a repeat of what Obama did to Hillary in ’08! IF the Biden camp is doing this, they only have to announce once the deadlines for candidacy and primary paper filings have to be given. It’s the ‘Obama’ rope-a-dope strategy.

“Go out a winner” should read “Go out the loser you have always been and will continue to be”.
