On Thursday, Republican 2016 presidential contender Dr. Ben Carson stated on CNN that the Holocaust would have been less likely had Jews been armed. In his new book, A Perfect Union, Carson contends, Through a combination of removing guns and disseminating propaganda, the Nazis were able to carry out their evil intentions with relatively little resistance.

The more armed a civilization is, the safer it is. I recall hearing that a Japanese leader, believing that there would “be a gun behind every blade of grass”, did not consider attacking us here.
Switzerland as you know REQUIRES military training for adult men, and I think that they need to keep (rather good)rifles in the house. Given that and home field advantage, I don’t believe that the entire US US Army down right down to the cooks and the motor pool could actually occupy the country without absolutely horrific losses. No one has been foolish enough to try.
Exactly. The Warsaw Ghetto pretty much highlights Dr Carson’s point.
Except Obama, I mean Hitler took them away.
It should be noted that at the start of the Warsaw Ghetto uprising, the Jews did indeed have just a few pistols. But, through judicious management, they built up their small stock to become a small arsenal, often taking weapons from dead Germans sent to kill them. Eventually, it took a huge number of German soldiers an extended length of time to crush the ghetto. And the Germans suffered a LOT of casualties and killed in the process.
For what they had *assumed* would be an easy effort to load Jews on trains to take to death camps.
Had many more Jews been armed at the onset, it is reasonable to assume that the Germans would have been far more inclined to leave them alone, it being just too expensive, in money and casualties, to carry out the Holocaust.
I’m pretty sure that whole slavery thingy wouldn’t have happened either had we had guns.
This is, of course, just a hypothesis.
Of course he is right. You’d have to be a lunatic to not see it.
Minimum of a hundred million people died last century due to governments having too much control.
Maybe the gun control nuts should read kindergarten book about human nature.
...One with lots of pictures and places to color with crayons.
My aim is probably awful; but I doubt any of those yahoos really want to risk it. I’ve a big, tough dog like Netanyahu’s - only fatter. I’ve faced facts.
Only to idiots..
In the fascist Germany of the 1930s, Jewish people who defended themselves with firearms would have been falsely accused and held up to the population for the purpose of further generalizing false accusations against all Jewish people.
That’s how fascism works. National subgroups are illogically and falsely categorized as winners or losers (e.g., those who made our former private sector thrive) and treated according to dishonest generalizations. We’re seeing the same on the increase in political speech.
Fascism is implemented in political speech, business and academia by socialists running on recirculating debt: some with whatever variants of the liberal progressive label and others claiming conservative identity. Politically active socialists suck the life out of an economy while blaming celebrities and non-influential groups.
Another day, another change in Ben’s supposed convictions.
Germans would have sttod up to the Nazis too. Take away private guns and you get people like Hitler and Hitler lites.
didn’t hitler take them...???
i think so
doesn’t obama want to take them
i think so...
doesn’t obama want to SUBMIT the USA to the whims of the UN on gun control and confiscation
i think so
Thanks. I appreciate the info.
Clearly improvised devices judging from the field expedient carrier/holster.
Learn how to make them. Get glass bottles (harder and harder to find, with so many plastic beverage bottles). Fill with 50-50 mix of gasoline and motor oil (helps it to stick to objects). Seal the bottle, but have a hole for a fuse (cotton rope, rolled-up T-shirt, etc.) Need a lighting mechanism. Bic lighter, or similar. There used to be a trick for taking a match book apart, turning the cover inside out, and using a rubber band to hold the striker surface against the match heads. Pull the striker surface and the fuse lights. However,I hardly see any match books nowadays. Whatever, have something that doesn't involve a lot of complication to light.
The second amendment protects a personal right, not a collective one. Germany in the last century wasn't America. Like all of Europe lacked our sense of personal freedom. But in that circumstance a firearm might well have meant the difference between escape or death. Or at least death in resistance. Like a good liberal, in Schindler's List Spielburg left out the fact that Schindler had amassed an arsenal of modern small arms for his Jews. Possible for a defense contractor. Like the Jews in Warsaw, and later the Warsaw Christians, they wouldn't have been taken at no cost.
And though an individual right, the founders recognized it's collective value. Hitler didn't only disarm Roma and Jews, he disarmed his political opponents. Had followers of the other political parties been armed, things might have followed a different path. Not to mention the resistance groups which fought effectively, and saved many lives.
Interestingly the Finns were German allies, but refused to persecute their Jews. There weren’t many, but there was a traveling Synagogue with the Finnish army, and Jews prayed in close proximity to Finland’s Nazi allies. There were actually a couple Jews awarded German Iron Crosses, which they refused to accept. Probably the only country in Europe with more Jews today than in the 1940s, 1,500 or so versus a few hundred.
