Peshmerga are not U.S. priority for now: official

A Pentagon spokeswoman has said the priority of the U.S. right now is equipping the Iraqi government forces and Sunni tribal fighters not the Kurdish forces of Peshmerga.

A chief goal of the Obama administration’s Iraq war policy is to train and arm the Iraqi army so it can retake territory, especially in the Islamic State stronghold of Sunni-dominated western Iraq.

According to Washington Times, Kurdish officials say Baghdad is the obstacle on Kurds’ receiving weapons. Iraqi government alone decides what weapons get transferred from the capital to the semiautonomous Kurdistan Regional Government, officials said.

“All equipment goes to the government of Iraq, and the government of Iraq distributes it,” said Army Col. Steve Warren, the top U.S. military spokesman in Iraq. “We do provide advice, but the final decisions are theirs.”

Baghdad is known for being leery of providing the Kurdistan Regional Government with front-line weapons, which it fears could be used in a war for full Kurdish independence.

The equipment shortage leaves the Peshmerga outgunned and facing waves of terrorist-operated American military vehicles rigged with powerful explosives.

The Kurdish officials said the Peshmerga owns only a handful of front-line anti-armor weapons, such as the European MILAN missile. It has hundreds of Swedish-designed, shoulder-fired AT-4s — a light, unguided weapon.

Peshmerga fighters say what they need are heavier, guided missiles, such as the longer-range U.S. TOWs and Javelins, with which they could kill armored vehicles at a safe range. They have received none, according to Kurdish sources.

Yeah wouldn't want any effective force fighting the terrorists now would we? Never mind that 0's agreement when pulling out of Iraq promised the Kurds that support.

Russia to send arms to Iraqi Kurds

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has stated that his country plans to send arms and weapons to Kurds in Iraq.

According to Ria Novosti, Lavorov told a UN meeting that Kurds in Iraq are fighting against the Islamic State (IS) and Moscow plans to arm them through the central government in Baghdad.

He stated that weapons have been sent to the Kurdish forces of Peshmerga, adding that Russia have positively answered Kurds’ demand for arms.

The Russian top foreign official further went on to say that a representative of Kurds is in the joint room of Iran, Iraq, Syria and Russia joint operation.

Kurdish officials, however, told Rudaw that they are not aware of any such room and they do not have any representative in the room.

Peshmerga Secretary General, Jabar Yawar, told they have not been informed about the room.

Putin will arm them if we don’t and probably Israel will see that they get what they need. Conjecture on my part, but I can see it happening. 2016 isn’t coming soon enough, this band of losers have to go along with her Highness.

The only legal way Obama can arm IS is to first give the arms to the Iraqi military.
Then, the Iraq military flees in battle, leaving behind the munitions.

Been workin so far.

Once again Putin will look like the hero and we look like we’re supporting Islamic extremism. But again maybe we are.

If the declare support for Assad and the Syrian government, Putin might arm them. Otherwise, he will bomb them.

How many times can you train the same army and resupply before you realize its a lost cause? They won’t fight. Unless there is a SEAL team commanding every brigade they won’t stand their ground. Arming the Kurds is money well spent except the Turks are a NATO partner and don’t want it.

Nope. Assad has a ceasefire with ISIS in the areas they are fighting with Kurds. Therefore, Putin won’t be having their backs.

Russian Terrorists shot down MH17: http://www.rferl.org/content/ukraine-mh17-bellingcat-report-russian-buk/27294953.html

Coalition forces still hitting ISIS more than the show display of Russia with it’s big Muslim population.

One major reason ISIL had such an easy time taking over Iraq is because Iraqi officers colluded with the Saddam Era Ex Iraqi army officers in ISIL to surrender or betray the troops thry commanded and hand over their American supplied weapons

Some officers were bad guys and others were good guys

Obama is to blame because of his premature witdrawal from Iraq.

The Saddam era bad guys in the Iraqi army were held in check by the presence and supervision of the American Military.

Iraq has huge problem because the country is majority Shia Muslim and ethnically and culturally tied and sympathetic to Iran while the Sunni minority held the positions of power, wealth and position under Saddam

When elections were held, the majority Shia elected one of their own as Prime Minister but the United States made sure he dealt fairly with Sunni minority elected officials and members of society governed as a secular leader should .

The US military also tried to make sure Iranian influence and meddling in Iraq were minimized.

The minute the US military left Iraq and its stabilizing influence evaporated the Shia Prime Minster began cozying up to Iran and purging Sunnis from the position of power in government and the military

Most of the Iraqi military’s upper level and skilled leadership are Saddam era Sunni and they were being purged by the Shia leadership.

Good or bad these officers saw the hand writing on the wall and and used their contacts with Saddam era ex colleagues to turn coat and help ISIL win and seize American weapons

This is just another Obama foreign policy failure
