A man who tips the scale at close to 800 pounds says he has nowhere to go after being kicked out of a hospital weight loss program for ordering pizza.

Now he rides in the back of an SUV while his father drives the roads of Rhode Island, looking for someone who can help.

Steven Assanti, 33, said his eating addiction has led him to this place, living in the back of his dad's SUV with nowhere else to go.

For the past 80 days, Assanti was getting the help he needed in a Rhode Island hospital where he lost 20 pounds. But ordering pizza violated the care plan, and the hospital told him he had to leave.

I’m presuming son in law, not sister in law.

He also probably ordered a diet Coke with it.

Maybe the guy (and his family) wanted the 5 minute national attention/sensation. Speaks ill of the general mental illness of our current culture.

Take him out to a cabin in the wilderness. Leave him there with water. Once a day, stop off and deliver a high-protein meal, some fruit, and some veggies.

I am not very sympathetic toward these grossly fat people. They lay in bed all day and SOMEONE has to bring them food and do other nasty chores for them that I won’t mention. Whoever that person is they are just as sick as the fat one.

-——Assanti’s father says taking his son home will be a death sentence, because he’ll just fall back into the habits of lying in bed and eating. So the two men say they will continue to drive around until they can find a place to help.-——

That’s a heck of a plan....!

Betcha dad ordered the pizza or at least paid for it....

” 80 days and he only lost 20 pounds:

THAT right there is telling me that he must have been cheating big time! (no pun intended). I am sure the doctors have told him that the weight will kill him and if he follows the program.. he will lose it (albeit dieting is not easy and needs a mental commitment). For those in the program who think they can do what they want... they are taking up a bed for someone who DESPERATELY wants it and will follow the rules.

That’s basically what I had to do to myself to beat the addiction.

Except someone had to also stay with me 24/7

See my post 33

He needs to get his weight down to 550 lbs. before he can have bariatric surgery.

Well, I think it’s safe to say that society has finally licked the hunger problem.

Steven Assanti...living in the back of his dad's SUV with nowhere else to go.

Well, surely he could find a public restroom that is big enough...

No, that's bad...I shouldn't be saying such stuff.

But the thought has crossed my mind about what persons of such a massive size do.

I mean, the simple act of reaching around to wipe...okay, I'm done.

I hope the guy is okay.

Really.

Even though his problem is of his own making, I still wouldn't wish it on anyone.

If I gain two pounds above my usual 220, I'm miserable.

But on the other hand, if I go below 210, I'm constantly hungry...but not to the point of eating up to 800+ pounds.

Call on the one(s) who aided and abetted while you were putting on that extra 600 pounds.

There came a point in time (and weight) that you were not doing it all on your own. Someone else was filling the trough on a regular basis.

Does you dad live in the SUV too? Move in with him. Likely, he was one of the aiders/abetters who made sure you got fed as you put on the extra pounds.

In the autumn of 2001 I was a milk shake shy of 300 pounds. A little altitude induced adrenaline/cardiac tantrum got my attention, and over the next 13 years I gently lost over 100 pounds. I changed my habits and conquered my eating desires, and now stay about 195 with no problem.

The difference between me and this guy is I WANTED to lose weight. He does not. He wants someone/something to magically make it disappear.

20 pounds over 80 days = 4 ounces per day.

It would only take 1000 days to lose 250 pounds he claims to need to lose for the surgery. Over 3 years to get thin enough (550 lbs or so) to have the surgery

That don’t make no sense.

My SIL is a BIG man. Even he got to only 400 lbs and all the sickness that goes with it, heart, diabetes, etc before he chose Bariatric surgery. He’s lost 200 lbs and now weighs where he should for his size.

...

There are some people who have great difficulty controlling it, and for them surgery is the option.

Everybody has their weaknesses, including those on this thread who take pride in saying this guy should be left for dead.
