Republican presidential candidate Carly Fiorina may not be a liberal, but she certainly appears to be a fan of the liberal arts.
The 2016 contender said Monday that her college degree in medieval history made her uniquely qualified to combat ISIS and other terrorist groups.
“My degree in medieval history and philosophy has come in handy,” Fiorina said at a town hall in Windham, N.H., “because what ISIS wants to do is drive us back to the Middle Ages, literally.”

As someone who obtained a master’s degree in medieval canon law, which served to get me admitted into a good law school, and had no other purpose, I am amused at this article.

She’s a LARPer?
Europe’s medieval period was quite good, in comparison to other places of the period, actually. Yes, many people were economically tied to the land as serfs, but they had basic rights to property and due process. Labor could migrate and Women could own property, and often did, especially after the black death. The Church as a powerful check on rapacious government, and wars were usually conducted by nobles and their mercenaries - and didn’t often involve the destruction of the common people, as wars do now.
Bringing Islam into the medieval period would actually be a great improvement, Carly.
