On October 3–two days after a gunman killed 10 at the gun free facilities on the Umpqua Community College campus–the New York Daily News called for the U.S. State Department to designate the National Rifle Association (NRA) a “terrorist organization.”
They based this request on their belief that national security faces a greater threat from armed citizens than from “foreign terrorists,” and they singled out the NRA as the bulwark preserving citizens’ right to keep and bear arms. They suggested, “The NRA should take its rightful place on the State Department list of terrorist organizations, because its influence is more of an immediate threat to the lives of our citizens than foreign terrorists.”
To be on the State Department’s list of designated terror organizations a group has to be state-sponsored for terrorism–which the NRA is not. Moreover, they do not exist for terrorist reasons. Rather, they exist to defend the civil liberties protected by the Second Amendment. Undaunted by these things, the NYDN simply declares the NRA a “terrorist group” and suggests it falls under the State Department’s purview by being “nearly-state sponsored.”
The NYDN added, “Although the NRA is not an officially state-sponsored organization it is the supporter of the state with its massive member and lobbyist donations to our elected officials.”

Speaking of the ATF, and terrorist organizations, the ATF is state-sponsored, and, through operation Fast and Furious, knowingly caused firearms to be sold to known straw purchasers (a crime) and then knowingly let them walk across the Mexican border (another crime ... unlawful export) and then used the uptick in violence, on both sides of the border, and including the murder of a US federal agent, together with the trace information they themselves did, showing the guns were purchased in the US, to press for stricter laws against guns and gun dealers. But wait! The definition of terrorism is “using violence or intimidation for political purposes.” This is precisely what the ATF was doing with Operation F&F. And they violated multiple laws in pursuing their goals. Including being accomplices in murder of a US federal agent. That’s terrorism, folks! And unlike the NRA, which is just a figurehead, and hasn’t been directly tied to any of the recent mass shootings, the ATF was directly involved in both the unlawful gun sales and in the use of the resulting violence to publicly lobby for changes in gun laws.
IMHO, it is soon reaching its end stage in movement...

maybe as long as they want to designate Constitutionally-recognized or protected activities as ‘terrorist’ .. maybe we should get the New York Daily News declared as terrorist, then have the IRS harass them, then have the DOJ close all their bank accounts, then have the EPA close their publishing plant for being a toxic waste dump, then have the FBI place them under 24/7 surveillance, then have the real terrorists (Islamonazis) come and pay them a visit too.....
after all, this IS the Obama administration!
