About Those Evil Guns

The lying President of the United States said this, “We know that the states with the most gun laws tend to have the fewest gun deaths. So the notion that gun laws don’t work, or just will make it harder for law-abiding citizens and criminals will still get their guns is not born out by the evidence.”

Right…

Only in the mind of Barack Obama.

Would the President like to attempt some fifth grade level research?

Here’s 15 states with the strictest gun laws (in order): California, New Jersey, Massachusetts, New York, Connecticut, Hawaii, Maryland, Rhode Island, Illinois, Pennsylvania, Michigan, North Carolina, Colorado, Oregon, and Washington.

Roseburg is in Oregon. Columbine and Aurora shootings both occurred in Colorado. California the number one most restrictive gun law state--is home to 4 of the top 30 “murder capitals.” New Jersey is home to the most murderous city in the U.S. in addition to holding 3 of the top 30 “murder capitals.” Massachusetts’ sitting duck population made the Boston terror incident more likely. Connecticut was home to the Newtown tragedy. Maryland’s Baltimore ranks number 11 on the top 30. Illinois which has some of the most restrictive laws saw Chicago top 500 murders per year in 2008 and 2012. Pennsylvania sees contributors Philadelphia, and Chester both contributing to the top 30. And Michigan occupies 3 of the top 7 top 30 slots this year, and held 4 of the top 6 last year.

The President was either fudging the numbers, or just flat making stuff up. He might have even been hiding behind the qualifier “tend to have.”

Whatever his motivation, he was full of poppycock.

And his views are dangerous.

The truth is the more that President Obama pushes for civilian disarming, the further he goes from preventing violent crime.

In one of the earliest modern cases of “open carry” Kennesaw, Georgia—a well known suburb of Atlanta—put “open carry” into effect in 1982. In one year violent crime was reduced 82% from before the law was changed. And a full decade later crime was still 72% lower than in 1981. In 2014 Quinnipiac University published the results of an exhaustive study that indicated that states that restrict concealed carry laws experience dramatically higher gun-related murder rates.

Dare we even bring up the fact that Texas this year passed a law, in effect now, that is dropping the rate of violent crime on it’s university campuses because it allows properly registered and certified students who already own guns to carry them on the college campus as well. In fact, be sure to check back with them in June to see what happened to the rates of campus rape, sexual assault, and petty armed burglary. But need we also remind everyone reading that the mass shooting that never occurred regarding Pamela Gellar had three hundred persons gathered to view cartoons of Mohammed and two armed muslims drove up with the intent to slaughter everyone in attendance was only thwarted because of legally armed citizens who held those terrorists instantly accountable.

Did the President even know that the nine states with the lowest violent crime, are all right-to-carry states? Does he know that law-abiding gun owners use guns some 2 million times per year in stopping violent crime?

This weekend I—like many of you—suffered the ignorant and uninformed in our social media feeds, many of them kvetching about why something "can’t be done” to stop the continuation of these violent outbursts. Perhaps like you, I was a bit dismayed at how out of touch leftists are in understanding the simple basics.

Something can be done—put simply—introduce character and accountability.

The one thing the President didn’t mention in the aftermath of Roseburg is this. None of the shootings that he cited, none of the shootings from Columbine to Newtown to Aurora to Virginia Tech—NOT A ONE OF THEM—took place in a right-to-carry zone. All of them—ALL OF THEM—took place in “gun free zones.”

One researcher discovered through interviewing convicted felons over the last decade that a criminal is 57% more likely not to follow through on a criminal impulse if they merely believe a lawful gun owner is present. The same researcher found that a crime is less likely to occur if the criminal sees the presence of lawful gun-owners. The mere sight of the law-abiding gun deters more than any other impetus tested.

The bigger problem in my heart and mind is the President’s blatant moral failure on the issue. When as much data exists, to willfully mislead the American people to believe the very opposite of what it demonstrates is itself gravely immoral, and some would make the case—even murderous.

It’s actually quite true, the best thing to stop bad guys with guns, is for good guys to have more guns.

The killer in Roseburg, whose name history should forget, had no character, and he feared no accountability. When those who have character, enforce accountability, the President’s solution will be found.

“We know that the states with the most gun laws tend to have the fewest gun deaths.”

This is a flat out lie. The average US murder rate per 100K population was 4.5 for 2014 per the FBI.

Here are the 2014 murder rates for the states with the most gun controls…

California: 4.4 < equal to national average (effectively)
Connecticut: 2.4
Delaware: 5.8 < over national average
District of Columbia: 15.9 (highest in US, and yes, it’s not a state)
Hawaii: 1.8
Maryland: 6.1 < over national average
Massachusetts: 2.0
New Jersey: 3.9
New York: 3.1
Rhode Island

Here are the 2014 murder rates for the state with the fewest gun controls.
None of these states require a governmental permit for legal concealed carry by citizens.

Alaska: 5.7 < over national average
Arizona: 4.7 < equal to national average (effectively)
Arkansas: 5.6 < over national average
Kansas: 3.1
Maine: 1.6 < tied for lowest in the nation
Vermont: 1.6 < tied for lowest in the nation
Wyoming: 2.7

All data per the FBI UCR crime report for 2014.

“You can see the truth on the Brady Bunch’s own website. States with the fewest laws = safest states. States with the most laws = most dangerous states.”

And you can also see that the “leaders” in those restrictive states counter with “their state is different!” Yeah, they’re different all right, they have more gun crime because of their idiotic laws. My guess is that as violence escalates, people will start ignoring their state’s “unlawful” gun restrictions, or maybe they’ve already started.

What the hell are they teaching these kids?

1. To feel alienated.
2. To hate those who have alienated you.
3. Retribution is valid.

My 2¢.

Indonesia and Kenya have gun laws, huh?

I guess we don’t have enough gun laws here already.

“We know that the states with the most gun laws tend to have the fewest gun deaths.”

Well, it's a truism of sorts, but it's stupid. The gun grabbers need to conflate homicides with suicides to say this, that is -- they say "gun deaths" instead of "murders".

"Gun deaths" includes homicides, but also suicides and accidents.

I don't know about you, but I am more concerned about protecting someone who doesn't want to die than I am about someone who actually wants to die. Firearm suicides outnumber homicides by a ratio of about 2:1, so conflating the two completely obfuscates what is happening.

The states with the lowest homicide rates generally have high gun suicide rates, because there are many guns available. With fewer guns, cities like New York, Chicago and Washington DC have fewer gun suicides, but they have high murder rates and they have high rates of suicide from jumping in front of subway trains and jumping from bridges and high places.

Conversely, states like Alaska, Montana, and Wyoming have 0.0% suicide rates resulting from jumping in front of subway trains. (Therefore, they should outlaw subways in New York, Chicago and Washington DC. For the children!)

It's just a stupid comparison and a stupid argument.

It really bothers me how easily these young, “college educated” kids decide that suicide is always an answer. (Thank you Tom Lantos). The liberals have made life totally worthless in the eyes of the young. They use these “mass killings” as a way to trample our Constitutional rights but they could really shive a git about the victims. Victims to them are just more political props to help themselves get elected. SOBs.

Colorado? Well, there are those two stupid laws the democRats rammed through. Most sheriffs won't even try to enforce them and are in federal court to overturn them. I carry guns legally all the time with no CCW.

Those two silly assed laws were not in effect at the time the two shooting the author cites took place.

Japan has a higher suicide rate than the US does, and effectively no private firearms. Funny term I learned in economics - substitution. Including suicide by firearm is an error because of substitution.

Someone I know called me Thursday afternoon to asked me if I was watching the President's speech about gun control. I paused to allow their question to sink into their own head for a moment before confirming for them, that I don't make it a habit of listening to blatant, serial liars because nothing they say is true. So why listen?

Obama is a pusillanimous (for those of you who aren't familiar with that word, it means cowardly, timid, fearful, lily-livered, spineless, craven, chicken-shitted, gutless, wimpy, sissy, yellow-bellied) LIAR. He never tells the truth. It's not in his DNA to do so. Listening to him is a waste of my precious time on this earth.

Just for fun, notice how the states with highest abortion rates “tend to” have highest crime rates. No respect for unborn babies = no respect for ANY life.

Logic, reason, and the truth are irrelevant at this point. It’s a matter of power. Once they have the power, they will do whatever they want and they will use their lies to justify it. and then it begins.

When is the last time this POS even saw his son? I’m guessing Chris was walking around with all kinds of daddy issues considering his white father left his black mother and him. I think Chris was probably lashing out at his father in fact.

"This is a flat out lie. The average US murder rate per 100K population was 4.5 for 2014 per the FBI."

Possibly not....note they are focusing totally on "gun deaths" rather than "total deaths". What typically happens when guns are grabbed by the state is that "gun deaths" DO go down, but total criminal murders and overall violent crime go up.

The total focus on "gun deaths" and "gun crimes" is misdirecting to obfuscate the increase in total crime.

You're right, dems know they're lying about gun violence.

It's who they are...

Look at the polls on Hillary - they ask dems if she's trustworthy and the answer is 'NO'. Then pollsters ask if they'll vote for Hillary - and the same people who think she's an untrustworthy liar say, "YES, we'll vote for her". What does that tell you about democrats?
