McCarthy’s comments on Benghazi probe may be a political gift to Clinton
Washington Post ^ | 10/1/15 | Philip Rucker and Robert Costa

Hillary Rodham Clinton’s upcoming appearance before the U.S. House Select Committee on Benghazi was supposed to be a crucible: a chance for Republicans to prosecute the former secretary of state for her handling of the 2012 terrorist attacks that killed four Americans as well as for her use of a private e-mail server. Instead, it may have turned into a political gift for Clinton following this week’s suggestion by the likely next House speaker, Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.), that the taxpayer-funded Benghazi investigation was politically motivated. Clinton’s allies say his comments will help recast Clinton’s scheduled Oct. 22 hearing as a partisan inquisition rather than a fact-finding mission about the attacks in Libya. McCarthy boasted in two television interviews on Tuesday that the committee’s work already had achieved a desired result: Clinton’s decline in the polls. The statements riled Democrats by seeming to validate their suspicions about the probe, which led to the discovery of Clinton’s use of a private e-mail server — a controversy that has dogged her for seven months.

McCarthy, with that statement, proved he is more interested in politics than in doing the right thing.

So what if an ambassador died along with a few other brave Americans, right? Hillary is out, because she’s untrustworthy..right?

That attitude sickens me.

Someone should smack that goober McCarthy and tell him that putting Hillary in prison will do a lot more to keep her out of the White House than a few “liar liar pants on fire” type of statements.

Spot on. Just as Mark Levin has said: Kevin McCarthy is Boehner minus 10 IQ points.

After his stupid bonehead comment, I'd say it's more like minus 40 points...

At 4:30 McCarthy openly links the creation of the Select committee with the political aim of weakening Clinton. Of course, the Congress has a legitimate oversight responsibility but the juxtaposition of the hearings with politics gave the democrats all they will need to defeat the impact of the hearings. He played straight into the democrat wheelhouse with a hanging curve.-- "It's all political, nasty right wing republicans-- they don't care about this phoney Benghazi issue, they just want to play politics with the nation's security. Nothing to see here!"

You want to defend that, be my guest. All you will have against you is about a thousand media lackeys just salivating to hang McCarthy's words around the party's neck. Immediately put the GOP, incredibly, on the defensive.

Too dumb to be Speaker, as if we needed any more reasons.

The most troubling thing I’ve heard about McCarthy is that during the fiscal cliff vote he whipped members to vote aye but then voted against it himself so he wouldn’t get a black mark next to his own name for hiking taxes. Kinda a dick move.

And now this atrocious gaffe. Trent Lott was drummed out for saying Strom Thurmond would have been a good President. This is much worse than that.

I have not been of that mind that “McCarthy is worse than Boner” but eh, I don’t know, I think we may have a lemon here. This kind of gaffe is unacceptable.

I’m mild on Webster and he faces uncertain fate with lib court ordered redistricting that could see him lose his seat, but I guess freepers should be backing him, the only guy who has the balls to run against McCarthy.

My jaw dropped when he said that on Hannity.

Then the stuttering moron completely screws up his walk-back on Special Report.

Who’s next on this ?

It sickens me too. Benghazi is about criminal negligence, incompetence and worse. Making it seem to be nothing more than a political cudgel to win an election erases any regard for the rule of law, competent leadership and national security as reasons to investigate it.

How is that any different ethically than 0bama ignoring the attack and then trying to cover up his inaction in order to win an election?

That statement was by design, rather than by accident, My FRiend. Neither Hillary nor the Republican Party is worried about anything happening to her. If anything happens to her, it will be the Democrats doing it, not the Republicans. These “hearings” going on now are a farce, only designed to kill and pass time.

MCCARTHY: “Everybody thought Hillary Clinton was unbeatable, right? But we put together a Benghazi special committee, a select committee. What are her numbers today? Her numbers are dropping. Why? Because she’s untrustable. But no one would have known any of that had happened, had we not fought.”

Everything in Washington is politically motivated, everything. This does not change any facts uncovered. If laws were broken they need to suffer the consequences, irrevelant of how or why it was discovered. This whining needs to stop, the truth needs to be sought after. The Uniparty needs to get a clue, We the People are fed up!

I can tell you exactly why McCarthy did it.

For days now, the talk has been about Trey Gowdy stepping into the Speaker’s chair.

I’ve “heard” but don’t know as fact, that Trey has said no, because he wants to finish the Benghazi hearings.

While McCarthy may have meant his comments to taint Gowdy as a Speaker candidate, I do agree that it does taint the hearing .. and for that reason, McCarthy is off my list to be Speaker.

WE CANNOT HAVE A SPEAKER WHO IS SO POLITICAL. We must have a person who can do the job and not be poisoned by talk from the media.

Besides, McCarthy has been at Boener’s hip for a long time. I used to think McCarthy was leaning more to the right; but now I’m not so sure.
