Enough conspiracies already! THIS is how the establishment fixes primaries.

I can't affirm or deny the existence of Operation Hummingbird. But if it exists, it's a mere finishing touch on a much more obvious, right-in-your-face plan to make sure that the worst, most liberal candidates always win. Simply, the powers that be allow Democrats and low-info "Independent" voters to pick our candidates.

A "closed" primary allows only registered party members to vote in the primary. An "open" primary allows anyone. ("Modified" primaries allow independents or certain other non-party members to vote.) The notion that states are obliged to have open primaries simply isn't true. Of the last 12 states to hold their primaries, only one is an open primary (three more are modified)... but by then the anti-conservative has already won.

So why of the first 11 primaries ... the ones that matter ... is only one of them closed?

Come on, folks... don't just whine about Bush, Rubio, Fiorina, Carson and God knows who else supposedly collaborating. Make sure your state has closed primaries. And don't accept any nonsense about the need for open primaries. If it's a state law, CHANGE THE DAMN LAW. Come on, Alabama, South Carolina, Arkansas, Georgia, Tennessee, Texas... these are all states where conservatives should be able to make sure elections aren't rigged to allow Democrats and low-info voters to pick our nominee.

Long ago I decided in a rational world the 50 states would be divided into 5 groups of 10, weighted to be roughly even in population. Closed primaries would be every two weeks for 10 weeks with the groups rotating in order every election cycle. Debates would be one week prior to each primary.

I’m sure that system cold be corrupted as well but it would at least be more difficult.

I maintain there should be a conservative secondary

the conservative candidate winning the secondary then competed against the GOPe candidate in the primary

How true. All primaries need to be within 2 weeks of each other. By the time Texas gets to vote we are RINO loaded.

Then Senfronia Thompson and her black 'Rat friends sue us in federal court, whining about redistricting, and tie us up against the ropes until the primary date has to be moved back a month or two.

That's what happened in 2012. Texas didn't get a say, and I think the RiNO's in the Lege were complicit with the DemonRats.

And, oh, by the way, it went to the Supreme Court, which dismissed the 'Rats' beef with prejudice -- slapped them hard, told them not to do this any more, and what happened? The 'Rats were back in district court the very next day anyway.

They are extremely determined and operate beyond the law.

I have NEVER understood why there are open primaries.

It seems to me that if you are to be part of choosing a particular party’s nominees for office (particularly for President, but really ANY office), then you should HAVE to have some proven degree of attachment to that party...such as having been a registered R or D for at least a year before the primary.

This makes NO sense whatsoever, other than in the context of specifically planning for more liberal candidates to win in the Republican primaries.

So this, apparently, is why Jeb said with confidence he was going to win South Carolina.

Yeah, that POS party establishment has a history. Fred Thompson was doing very well in the REPUBLICAN polls prior to primary day in 2008...but the crossovers (i.e. Dems) put McStain over the top and buried Thompson's campaign. Now he does reverse mortgage commercials, instead of being CinC and pulverizing ISIS. Thank you, South Carolina traitors!

A closed primary is quite easy to penetrate. Changing one’s party affiliation is very easy. So is changing it right back.

Not so much if you require someone to have been a party member for at least a year before the primary.

Who gets to define "conservative?" Also, won't the moderates then demand a right to their own "secondary?"

Some beats the Hell out of a free-for-all with essentially no rules. There is no perfect system, but you can eliminate most of the crap with a simple system...if only the establishment types were willing, which they are not.

The elites know best, and if tbey use their wealth and power to usurp our right to self determination, well, I trust them to do the right thing.

They are already low turn-out for voting in a dem primary, they are not smart enough or motivated enough to vote in the republican primary.

Not worried in Texas.

PA has closed primaries.

Never checked since we've been relegated to irrelevance. I wish someone would challenge Bob Casey. He's been wrong on every single vote, in Obama's pocket.

This isn’t a conspiracy in the sense of a secret collusion; this is right out in the open.

We can have a national election on one day, why not primaries?

Because the communists control everything.
