A few days ago a cop from Beaver County,PA, just north of Pittsburgh shot himself in the chest while “cleaning his gun.”
So what about all these perps and stories about perps that they have been running after?????
I thought the cops gun was missing. Kinda hard to shoot yourself in the head and then hide the gun.
Idiots who don’t know the mechanics of a revolver vs. semi-auto have no business handling either.
The first lesson I ever give anyone, including my kids, is to load 5 (in my 5 round Rossi) bullets in a revolver, close it, open the cylinder, take out the bullets, and count them. Always 5 come out.
Then I load the 5 into the semi-auto magazine, insert the magazine, charge the pistol, then take out the magazine.
Everyone is always surprised when only 4 bullets come out of the magazine. Where could the other one be?
DON’T pull the trigger to find out.

I find that very hard to believe. Did they find a pistol in the officer’s hand and does the bullet match that pistol? Does the officer have powder residue on his hand?
If yes, it’s possibly a suicide, if no, it’s a homicide.

So if the thinking is that this is for an insurance payout, where dying in the line of duty pays but suicide doesn’t, it is a twisted path. If they find the bullets fired from his own weapon, and no perps are ever apprehended or motive discovered would the uncertainty mean it would not be ruled suicide, thus the payout would occur? I guess they will see if he has recently been diagnosed with a terminal illness, but even if he had, that is only circumstantial, doesn’t clearly show suicide.
Earlier article said the weapon was next to the body, consistent with falling from his hand. The two shots were midsection, one struck body armor, one was lethal, so could be suicide or was he struggling with a perp who controlled the weapon. In either case not sure powder residue would help.
I’ll bet he’s got a Hastert problem and folks are trying to cover it up to protect the family’s insurance payout. Those guilty of the cover-up should be charged with conspiracy and fraud just like anyone else would be. And, asked to pay back the funds for the wasted search effort.
How irresponsible to speculate about this. How could it be suicide if he was shot twice? Any powder residue on his hands? It could be a perp struggle. Honestly the speculation, even in this thread, is harmful. Let the FACTS come out. Prayers for his loved ones.

I spoke with a Chicago area cop about a week ago. He said there is no doubt he killed himself and those in the law enforcement community feel the same way.
Two white kids and a black kid in Fox Lake with absolutely no witnesses and no video? Perhaps they were at a 7-Eleven earlier in the day?
Police were on the scene in minutes and some how the three who had no advance plans of killing a cop or being hunted by a huge posse were able to sneak away without a trace?
I tend to agree that a suicide would at least be a possibility at this point.
The officer’s clothing, which officials reportedly are testing for residue, would first be checked in a visual examination, then with chemical tests. Sometimes, he noted, bullets are actually fired into the clothing if the weapon in question can be identified.
In a close contact shot, he noted, microscopic examination will reveal fibers which have been melted by the heat of the bullet and gun blast.
Authorities at two of the laboratories known to be investigating the case refused Tuesday to reveal the status of their examinations. A spokesman for the Illinois State Police referred all inquiries to the Lake County Task Force. And the assistant laboratory director of the Northern Illinois Police Crime Laboratory in Vernon Hills, would say only that his organization’s work continues.
So, there is a possibility Gliniewcz may have been killed by aliens from Pluto.
No evidence to go on so why not speculate it was suicide. Got to stop this awfully biased anti-cop-killing thug reporting, what better way than to take a case with zero leads and deflect, divert and obfuscate and accuse the officer. . .even better, accuse him with no evidence of any sort. . .you know, guilty until proven innocent of the charge.
It is very easy to determine if suicide or not. . .usually in a matter of hours.
Suicide in real life is not like TV where some guy offs himself and through a complicated set-up, hides that fact.
Is there ANYTHING in the background of the officer that indicates suicide? This isn’t normal for a cop within a week or two of retiring. Impending divorce, a note, anything, known depression?
Absent any indicators, the story is that he was sent to investigate three suspicious characters, is found dead on a gunshot, and his gun is gone.
Makes much more sense that he got into a wrestling match with those 3 and was shot with his own gun.
If the examiner is just speculating with no basis, he’s an ass.
As Lambslave said, the officer was shot twice in the midsection. One shot impacted on body armor, so only one (presumably the second) went in. On top of that, a gutshot takes longer to kill you. If, as others suggest, this was a bid to secure an insurance payout for the officer’s family, then the body armor shot could have been added for verisimilitude.
