Republican Candidates Prepare to Hit Trump at Second Debate

The Republicans’ second presidential debate is shaping up to have all the hallmarks of a Hollywood blockbuster: drama, high-speed collisions and, of course, the fiery explosions. Donald Trump, of course, is getting the star billing at the CNN production.

The White House hopefuls are set to clash—and maybe crash—Wednesday at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library near Los Angeles for a pair of back-to-back forums, split among those who are polling atop the field and the also-rans. As with their first forums, all eyes will be focused on Trump, the brash billionaire who is leading polls and in potshots aimed at his rivals.

Many seem to be waiting for Trump to “Jump the shark” and bring his candidacy to an ignominious end.

I support Trump and will admit that I have worried about this...

But just suppose it is Trump who is waiting for the MSM/Left/GOPee to do the shark jumping?

Imagine the debate going like this...

The debate quickly becomes very heated, with both the moderators and the band of GOPee henchmen greatly overstepping the bounds of acceptable behavior. Think of the Meygny Kelly episode writ much larger.

It would be obvious to all exactly what was happening... an unfair, premeditated attack on Trump with the goal of destroying his candidacy.

IMO Trump does not need the debates, it’s the MSM/Left/GOPee that need for Trump to be in the debates to give them an opportunity to wound him.

Trump could wait for a particularly egregious attack upon him and make a statement and quickly walk out of the debate. He could say it was obvious that the debate was just a forum to mount attacks against him and that he will not play. He could invite everyone to please tune to another news network to watch a press conference he would immediately convene once he is outside.

The debate would effectively be finished, the majority of viewers would tune away and the remaining participants would be so flummoxed that it would be nearly impossible to continue on.

Trump would have all the attention squarely on himself... the ‘impromptu’ press conference would draw all eyes to it.

There essentially would be no further primary debates since without the front-runner there would be near zero interest in such events. Even if they held more debates they would be merely an exercise in futility.

Trump would be running like a 3rd party candidate, but would do so as a republican seeking the nomination... he would be in a much better position IMO.

Trump’s greatest strength is that he is “Not like those guys” he is something different... people are sick of the same old politics and hungry for something different.

Imagine if they throw everything but the kitchen sink at him and he still walks away unscathed. that’s what I think is going to happen. They aren’t going to knock him out of the top spot.

That would be a game changer, alright. Do you think Trump could survive the charge that he’s a quitter who can’t take the heat, ‘cause that’s what the GOPe would run with.

I think all he has to do is stay calm and launch zingers as he sees fit. Let the others go bonkers, but fight back in a reasoned, humorous way.

In the first Republican presidential debate, most candidates took a hands-off approach to Donald Trump and hoped the brash billionaire would hurt himself.

Instead, he only got stronger.

Trump's unexpected durability has led some of his rivals to shift their strategy for Wednesday's second showdown. Now their goal is to engage Trump, without inflicting any damage on their own campaigns.

That would be a hard case to make...after all, Trump is the guy that holds so many press conferences that he wears the reporters out..lol

He even relishes going on tough shows like "The View".

It seems likely that Ronald Reagan’s rule -– never speak badly of a fellow Republican –- will be violated several times in his own presidential library.

Wasn’t there just an article that said Walker was all but out?

Is he only showing up for this new feeding frenzy?

Does the R-elites think that viewers will not *notice* that it’s a ganged up feeding frenzy?

No one imagines that this could backfire spectacularly?

Exactly right!

This is the second time I have seen someone suggest Trump walk out.
Not very presidential.

The GOPE is telegraphing it’s punches.
Too many people are saying too much to the press about their roles in taking Trump down.
They have never been in the position of having someone fight back like Trump has.

Donald Trump is too savy a businessman to walk out in the middle of a very public negotiation.
He will take the body blows and counter punch.
The interviews tomorrow will be the big story.

The other day he said he heard they were going to come after him at the debate...He just shrugged his shoulders and said "whatever".

As long as they stay away from his family I don't think any one of those dimwits can rattle him.

What usually happens when people see someone being ganged up on?

They feel sympathy for the “under dog”.

This is a stupid strategy for the RINOs.

I hope their collective petards hoist them clear off the stage.
