I miss those grand ships - the last of the old wagons in active service they were.

The four sisters (Iowa, Wisconsin, New Jersey and Missouri), the one who never sailed (Kentucky), and the sitxh who was never built (Montana).

Now, I just learned something, FRiend! Thanks! I knew about ‘Montana’, but never ‘Kentucky’ and ‘Illinois’ as battleships. A bit before my time, though. We have ‘Wisconsin’ here in Norfolk; she’s a grand old lady, for sure!

You and me both Sarge, and let us not forget the USS Texas, and the USS North Carolina too.

And an honorable mention to a fine battleship that served for many many years, and wound up as razor blades after 1959, she deserved better:

Montana was to be the first of the successors to the Iowa Class ships, the new Montana Class.

I miss them too.

I tried to enlist about that time just to get on one and they told me the battleship billets were all spoken for.

6th was the Illinois. The Montana was a new class that never made it off the drawing board.
