Tricycles might seem pretty tame but they send thousands of kids to emergency rooms each year and are even linked to a handful of deaths, new research shows. Here are three things to know about tricycle risks:
THE NUMBERS
More than 9,000 tricycle-related injuries were treated in U.S. emergency rooms in 2012 and 2013, or nearly 5,000 each year, according to the study by researchers at Medical College of Georgia and Emory University.

THE ADVICE
The American Academy of Pediatrics says most children don't have the balance or coordination to ride a tricycle until around age 3.
Tricycles that are low to the ground, with big wheels, are safest, and helmets should be worn, the academy says. Proper supervision is advised, including keeping little cyclists away from pools and streets.

Tricycle Free Zones .... I demand it!!!
Why do you hate your planet?
There is no fart bag on that horse to reduce methane!!!!
No wonder the world hates us!
LOL..... I turn 67 next month and I’m amazed every single day that I am still alive.
Finally, now that we can breath a sigh of relief on ISIS, Iran, emailgate, $18 Trillion, $200 Trillion, GOPe, Hijra, Criminaliens... we can now address the real problems of society, Tricycle accidents.
She looks a bit like my #2 grandaughter. I call her Dora. She doesn’t ride a trike anymore, she is in a kart now. I have it tuned way down, but she still tries to slide it around the track when it’s wet. A little more power and she’ll have it.
BAN TRICYCLES NOW!!
Thanks for making me laugh as the VP was walking by.
My siblings all voted me most likely to die before adulthood. 32 years ago. I still do dumb stuff, but thankfully I almost always make it in monday to my cushy office chair to recover for 5 days
I walked by a set of bleachers last week...the top seat was around 5 feet off the ground. An the back and sides of the bleachers had a chain link fence on it, serving as a guard rail.
Initially, it made sense to me - somebody could fall off and sue.
But then I snapped out of it, and was a little sad. Its come to this - we need guard rails on a 5 ft tall bleacher.
You tink? You just posted the same ‘Ting’ Three times. I Tink.
It’s also offensive to little wheels!
Kids just aren’t as tough these days.
With plastic low center of gravity trikes and dorky helmets, how is that possible.
Early fifties we rode American iron trikes with wire spoke wheel, steel seats, and a high center of gravity. No decals, hell even the mfr’s name plate was enameled steel riveted to the center post. We carried more passengers than a Mexican bus, waving cap pistols and wooden swords. You took a tumble, took your road rash and mounted back up. Moms cleaned the wounds after we got home.
Huh...looking back, seems like we were Hell’s Angel junior auxiliary
Geez. I’m 57 years old and if I’d ever worn a helmet on a trike or bike I’d have gotten my butt beat up every day!
LOL.... women drivers start young... huh?
Yes, but Seniors Retireess or BOOMERS on Tricycles are.
Ban trikes!
How many times did we mothers scream "walk" when the little bats out of hell took off.
