The Thing Glenn Beck doesn't get about Christian Churches vs. Mormonism

Posted on 09/14/2015 8:05:25 AM PDT by SoCalTransplant

Glenn Beck said a very revealing thing on the radio today, which illustrates the difference between Mormonism and Christianity.

He was talking about speaking at a Baptist Church this weekend on his Never Again is Now campaign. And as usual, he was making the case that Christian churches should align with him on his refugee campaign to bring thousands of middle eastern refugees (he says Christians only, although he openly says he'd like to bring in muslims if he could only tell the good ones from the bad ones). And in the course of his speech he expressed frustration with Christians who refuse to get involved with this cause, stating that the purpose of their church is to "Bring more people people to Christ". Beck sounded incredulous, asking "so you can do WHAT?" and went on to imitate God looking upon that saying "Thanks for bringing more do-nothings to me". This reveals something very important about Beck, but in a larger since about Mormon Theology and its view of the world.

Simply put, Mormonism does not believe in hell, or salvation from hell, short of an "outer darkness" that as best I can understand it is reserved for Hitler, Stalin and the like.

Therefore, to Glenn as a Mormon, a church that simply spreads the Gospel for the purpose of saving souls is worthless, or of minimum value. Because, after all, everyone is going to heaven anyway, be it Celestial Level Mormon heaven or regular "good guy" heaven. So really the mission of the church is to invoke its members to social action and good works. This helps to explain Beck's obsession with figures like Martin Luther King Jr. and Gandhi. The fact that King was a socialist or a moral sleaze really doesn't matter as he was trying to move the country to social action that he felt just. The fact that Gandhi was a Hindu doesn't really matter for the same reason. Thus Glenn can parrot Gandhi's "I like Christ but not Christians" like with no reservation because, like Gandhi, he does not see any fundamental superiority in Christianity as a religion over Hinduism, or Islam, or Atheism for that matter. Its all leading to the same place, so all that really matters to a Mormon worldview is the good works we do on this earth. Thus the most valuable aspect of religion is not that which saves the soul, but that which spurs to activism.

But there's a problem with that and trying to call yourself a Christian, as Glenn does. Christianity only means something if Christ was who he said he was. As CS Lewis so adequately observed, Christ was either Liar, Lunatic, or Lord. He could not be just a good man or another way to God. He was THE way. If he wasn't the only way, then he was a fool who died for nothing, as there were other paths to God available. Thus, "Bringing people to Christ" is the most important thing a church can do. It is the fundamental reason for its existence. To deny this displays a basic misunderstanding of what it means to be a Christian. Of course we should do good works, (although I would disagree with Glenn on what those good works should be in regards to middle eastern refugees) but good works are not the point, they are a by product. God looks at souls being brought to Christ as the greatest thing ever, not with a sarcastic "thanks for nothing". It's not, as Mr. Gandhi indicated about "liking" Christians better or Christians being as a whole "better" than Hindus or Mormons, or Buddhists. Its that Christians have the one and only true bridge between man and God.

If Glenn doesn't believe that, but yet claims Christ as his Savior (as he did on the radio this morning), I'd ask the question "Glenn, what do you think you have been saved from"?

Mormonism is a cult. The worst click I have ever seen. Thought differently a couple years ago till I got to work for them. They simply would have me train their little boys, and then fire the more experienced non Mormons to replace them with their Mormon friends.
Mormons also will lie to non Mormons to get the money they desire. Money is the Mormons God.

Mormons are NOT Christians. Although they dishonestly use the name of Christ, they do not believe He is who He says He is.

They follow the insane teachings of violent, lying psycho Joe Smith instead of the true Lord Jesus Christ.

Beck is a perfect convert to Mormonism. He admits he became a Mormon, not because they presented him with Truth, but because they were nice to him. Kinda sounds like Rick Warren's soulless message:

"Who cares about the Gospel? Just be nice to people."

...the purpose of their church is to "Bring more people people to Christ".

This is true, but it is not a suicide pact. The purpose of the church is to "Bring more people people to Christ", NOT "Bring more people people to cut your head off"............................

You may be right about money, I dont know because I’ve never seen that side of it. But I think its important to point out the fundamental difference between Christianity and Mormonism, and why one can not be the other theologically.

I’m sure there are good rank and file Mormons that aren’t motivated by money...but their beliefs are not compatible with Christianity.

Oh I completely agree. But the point of what he was saying was that it was silly to have a Church to just bring people to Christ.

I stopped listening to Beck years ago. His Mormonism seeps into his politics all the time, which I don’t think he is aware of. In other words, his apparent conservatism is grounded in a falsity, the ever-changing falsity that is Mormonism. Ergo, not only is he non-Christian, he is not really a conservative politically, no matter what he may think.

To paraphrase Forrest Gump, delusion is as delusion does.

Peter was given the command, by the Lord Jesus, to “Feed my sheep.” Meaning to provide for His followers the “Bread of Life” , the gospel of Jesus’ death, burial and resurrection so that they may have eternal life as well...................

Glenn is going on and on about bringing in more illegals from Muslim countries into the country to free them. If Newt or Trump proposed this he would be called a progressive by Glenn.

Oh why bother with spreading the Mormon gospel (unless it is
to get more money) because after all you can pray for them after they are dead and get them into Mormon heaven. /s

Beck also lets his mormonism cloud the importance of our nation in history. Mormons see the US as the promised land and favored by their god. Christians know that kind of nationalism is not Biblical. The Lord favors those who have faith in Him and he uses nations to further His gospel to all peoples.

When Mitt was running, I observed (my opinion) that mormonism and islam were very much alike. Maybe not so much in outward appearance, but in methods, activities, and results.

Glenn is bashing Trump’s faith and church activities again. Same old. Same old. He also said Trump started bashing Carson’t faith. Wrong. Carson bashed Trump’s faith first and Trump only responded. I’m turning this off.

he’s employing his new subtle tactic, he never mentions Trump now without a segue into “just like Barack Obama”.
