It’s way easier to work a bit and file for unemployment, or file for Social Security Disability for any number of ‘ailments’. Beats heck out of working for a living.

Well, that's true if one has no self respect, I suppose. Granted that self-respect has gone to hell for a good part of the population...

One question though (the wording has me confused). Are "legal immigrant workers" not part of the totals (100% that one starts out with) in the 2nd group of figures?

For example:

◾77.7 percent of the 7.75 million workers in food preparation and serving jobs are native-born workers (does not include legal immigrant workers).

If the number of legal immigrant workers in food prep and serving is substantial (seems likely), but not counted in the starting 100%, then that alters the results somewhat, even if it does not blow up the author's argument.

I went to the link and am still unsure on this point.

“Being in the fruit and produce industry for nearly 40 years I know that labor in the price of the end product is not a factor.”

Not only that, but the low wage illegal workers social cost of health care, schools, etc. amounts to more in taxes for the consumer than the worker is being paid by the farmer.

“there are many highly talented foreigners who we should LOVE to bring in. I work with some. But, the requirement should be that companies who wish to bring them in should pay 20% over the “prevailing wage” (paid to US citizens). If the guy or gal (potential employee) is really that good, no smart company would balk at a 20% premium, especially when the present market (pay) is so skewed lower anyway, when it comes to most technical and skilled positions.”

That’s an excellent idea. We can still take the cream of the crop and make them Americans, but not so readily on the backs of those who were here first.

The people that don’t want to work are the ones who are being enabled by our very own government. If they work the freebies stop flowing.

Stop giving these parasites a free ride and guess what, they will start working again.

It’s an easy solution, but then again our leaders are STUPID!

“Hey Ben, was nice knowing ya!”

You’ve not even held any political office yet it appears you’ve consumed the DC Kool-Aid.

Go back to working on brains as that’s all you’re qualified for.

It’s back-breaking work, something that Blacks decided wasn’t for them years ago.

It’s not just agriculture: In the company I once worked for, some of the jobs out on the production line were darn hard / tiring, and the company did not pay very well. I occasionally filled positions on the line, especially when new products were run and problems developed. All product designers should get some good “hands on experience” of this type, IMO, but it was a good way to go home exhausted.

Some “line” workers couldn’t handle it, but many did, and were very good employees. Several, I still count as friends. :-)

My 19 year old AMERICAN Black son worked a asphalt miller last year, guiding the miller through miles of asphalt in preparation for the asphalt machines to lay tar.

12 to 16 hours a day. Sixteen hour nights on highways six days a week. Hot weather, hot machines he made 40K plus between May and November and quickly jumped to another job, no unemployment for him. There are plenty of hardworking kids.

This year he is excavating and truck driving, only 60 hours a week. A vacation.

It also has to do with people being too lazy to mow their own lawns.

Unless you are one of those that are too busy trying to make a living and pay 50% in taxes to support the parasites.

Very good! May your lineage continue for ages. I’m very tribal like that as well; for decades I’ve felt like a foreigner here (taxpaying, but visiting), and never more so than now. One unintended consequence of “standing down” in the face of the anarchists in Ferguson & Baltimore is the realization by many Americans that their government will not protect them; the increase in gun sales attests to that.

I actually like it when people look out for themselves; dependence on the nanny state was unhealthy anyway. Now if we could just stop paying for it...

Correction, Doctor: Americans wont do that job at the prevailing wages forced low by an unconstitutional invasion of 30MM illegal aliens.

Factor them out and we’d pay more for some services, but the jobs would be filled.

Yep - quit paying Americans not to work, and rather quickly Americans will be begging to do the jobs Americans won’t do.

Can we get Trump or Sessions to take note?

One other nice feature: By paying foreigners who companies think are really worth an extra 20%, the extra 20%, no one can accuse the proponent of the plan of hating non-American workers...!

BTW, it might also make sense to include some carrot / stick provisions to encourage such workers to become citizens.
