I don’t really have a choice and won’t go into the reasons why, but I don’t understand the hyperventilating about Trump. Someone explain to me how in the heck he can be any worse than what we have now as president, presidential contenders, the house, the senate, heck all the way around. How can he be worse?
I honestly think we’re past the tipping point anyway and the public will not let anyone bring it back.

Exactly. When William F. Buckley, Jr. died, so did National Review.

The lights went out there years ago.

No evidence that Jonah supports Bush.

Buckley supported John McCain in the 2008 primary.

Trump is not a conservative. I don’t think he is calling himself one. He happens to be right on several issues, and so far is convincing that he will actually come to grips with them. That alone puts him head and shoulders above the pack, and sets him in opposition to the Geriatric Old Plotters who will maintain the status quo as long as they can draw benefits from it, and who will helicopter off just as the roof caves in on US.

At this point it looks like Trump may well be the nominee. His charisma and his comments on illegals resonate with blue collar dems and independent middle income types and it does so across racial lines to some extent. Personally I think Trump is fos but that doesn’t blind me from the obvious. Unless he really steps on his conservative nut he probably will win the nomination and may be the next POTUS.

But Trump has no core principles and his supporters here will be doing one helluva lot of rationalizing and defending should he win it all.

McCain was a good fake in 2008.

Jonah on Romney, Feb., 2012: " If elected, Romney must follow through for conservatives and honor his vows to repeal ObamaCare, implement Rep. Paul Ryan's agenda, and stay true to his pro-life commitments."

He didn't have any problem asking conservatives and pro-lifers to trust and for Mitt wit.

Well said....

If Trump merely accomplishes the task of ridding us of this scourge of illegal immigration, he will have done more than enough to reverse the mess were in.

None of these other clowns are even remotely serious about doing anything about it.

Not only was McCain a good fake in 2008, but he had a running mate that did make me hope that he would have the good grace to die a day or so after the inauguration.

For most folks, no matter what their politics, the president is elected based on popularity....not principles. It is the youtube, facebook, image is everything election.......but damn it you need to win before you can govern.

Trump understands the hottest button of the majority of Americans is the immigration mess we have now. He has been able to coalesce huge portions of the population with his one trick pony topic and sloganeering the rest. A republican congress and senate can't do crap with a libtard in the WH.

Winning really is everything.

They can label all the things you listed however they wish to label them. They make sense and the American people support those positions, so the establishment sour pusses will just have to swallow their disappointment. We don’t want one of their mushy, do nothing candidates. We’re ready to put America First!

Agreed. So don’t call the movement “conservative” - who cares? What matters is whether Trump (or any of the others) can make actual progress on the critical problems facing the country.

If their idea of conservative is ¡Yeb!, Rubberio, NJFatBoy, La Raza Rick, Grahamnesty, Kasich, Pataki, Gilmore, Huckster or Fiorina, then I don’t want to be conservative.
I can find a new name for traditional American values.

Those traditional American values include the rule of law, which none of The Cheap Labor Express candidates value at all.

The first principle of conservatism is to conserve the nation.

Exactly the point.
The people Jonah calls conservative want to abandon the rule of law and surrender the country to fraudulently documented foreigners.

I hope Jonah got more than 30 pieces of silver.
