Boyfriend of TV Journalist Slain on Air Will Do 'Whatever It Takes' to Save Others from Gun Vi

The TV anchor boyfriend of the late broadcast journalist Alison Parker, who was slain Aug. 26 on live TV alongside her cameraman, has vowed to honor her memory by covering issues of gun violence and mental illness.

Anything, he says, to spare another family.

"I pledged to her father," Chris Hurst, the 28-year-old evening anchor at WDBJ, tells PEOPLE. "Her father wants me to help him do whatever it takes to make sure not one more family has to go through this kind of unspeakable violence."

Whew! I already feel safer. Or did I get it wrong here. Doing "whatever it takes" would indicate that he and the dad will be going after bad guys and making sure stricter sentencing is in place for those using firearms in the commission of a crime. Right? No, as usual, they'll set their sights on a much softer target. You know, law abiding citizens who are responsible with their firearms.

So they’re going to extend a whole lot of effort in actually locking up the mentally ill who have a long history?

Because THAT is the only thing that will prevent more whacked out people from shooting people (or stabbing, or using whatever.) The guns aren’t the problem, they are a tool, and you outlaw one tool, they’ll just move onto the next.
