Statement of Kentucky Clerk Kim Davis - It's a Heaven or Hell decision.
Liberty Counsel ^ | September 1, 2015 | Kim Davis

Posted on 09/04/2015 1:36:53 PM PDT by Jim Robinson

Kim Davis released the following statement a few days ago:

I have worked in the Rowan County Clerk’s office for 27 years as a Deputy Clerk and was honored to be elected as the Clerk in November 2014, and took office in January 2015. I love my job and the people of Rowan County. I have never lived any place other than Rowan County. Some people have said I should resign, but I have done my job well. This year we are on track to generate a surplus for the county of 1.5 million dollars.

In addition to my desire to serve the people of Rowan County, I owe my life to Jesus Christ who loves me and gave His life for me. Following the death of my godly mother-in-law over four years ago, I went to church to fulfill her dying wish. There I heard a message of grace and forgiveness and surrendered my life to Jesus Christ. I am not perfect. No one is. But I am forgiven and I love my Lord and must be obedient to Him and to the Word of God.

I never imagined a day like this would come, where I would be asked to violate a central teaching of Scripture and of Jesus Himself regarding marriage. To issue a marriage license which conflicts with God’s definition of marriage, with my name affixed to the certificate, would violate my conscience. It is not a light issue for me. It is a Heaven or Hell decision. For me it is a decision of obedience. I have no animosity toward anyone and harbor no ill will. To me this has never been a gay or lesbian issue. It is about marriage and God’s Word. It is a matter of religious liberty, which is protected under the First Amendment, the Kentucky Constitution, and in the Kentucky Religious Freedom Restoration Act. Our history is filled with accommodations for people’s religious freedom and conscience. I want to continue to perform my duties, but I also am requesting what our Founders envisioned – that conscience and religious freedom would be protected. That is all I am asking. I never sought to be in this position, and I would much rather not have been placed in this position. I have received death threats from people who do not know me. I harbor nothing against them. I was elected by the people to serve as the County Clerk. I intend to continue to serve the people of Rowan County, but I cannot violate my conscience.

When she ran for the clerk’s office the law was no gay “marriage”. Now the law is to issue gay “marriage” licenses. That is the change in the law that she did not bargain for when she ran.

Do you have a copy of the actual text of the new law?

Nothing that I know of pertaining to the actual law in question. Looks like the state legislature has not passed a new law on this. I could be wrong about that, but I haven’t seen any reports to the contrary.

Ah, right. Sorry to be dense. But don’t you agree that when she ran, the legal climate was that marriage was between a man and a woman, and due to the Supreme Court abomination — let’s not call it law — she is now asked to do gay “marriages”? So she is upholding the law, and those who say that she must do her job under these changed circumstances are wrong on the facts and on the logic.

Marriage is one man, one woman regardless of attempted judicial tyranny. This ruling is every bit as wrong as Dred Scott. Hoping the recourse in this case is not as expensive as that one.

The founders never ever intended the Feds or the SCOTUS to wield unlimited powers over the people. This is straight up fascist tyranny.

I don’t know what’s in her mind, Nep Nep. But perhaps it was about taking a stand, about professing her faith?

She may well need the paycheck (who doesn’t, in these times), but perhaps she was moved to draw a line in the sand.

She may have sought attention, but I don’t think she wanted that for herself.

Sorry, the woman is a phony. She’s been married and divorced 4 times. She does not give a damn about marriage. I’m 52, I’ve known countless people, I can’t even count even once how many people I know who have been divorced more than one time. I don’t know ANYONE who has been divorced more than once. This woman on the other hand has been divorced FOUR TIMES. And she’s dictating about marriage? We don’t need someone like her speaking about marriage. She comes across to me as someone who is solely using religion to garner attention.

It bothers me that Kim is a Democrat. Something is just not sitting right with me on this. Is she saying she can no longer support her party?

You might want to read her complete statement again. She’s now a devout Christian and her past is behind her.

Her faith is at odds with the godless democrat abortionist/homosexualist agenda. If she’s still a democrat, doubt she’ll remain one much longer.
