Cruz: I Call Upon Every Believer...to Stand with Kim Davis
TedCruz.org ^ | 9/3/2015 | Ted Cruz

Posted on 09/03/2015 1:01:16 PM PDT by DaveyB

HOUSTON, Texas – U.S. Sen. Cruz, R-Texas, today released the following statement regarding the arrest of Kentucky Clerk Kim Davis:

“Today, judicial lawlessness crossed into judicial tyranny. Today, for the first time ever, the government arrested a Christian woman for living according to her faith. This is wrong. This is not America.

“I stand with Kim Davis. Unequivocally. I stand with every American that the Obama Administration is trying to force to chose between honoring his or her faith or complying with a lawless court opinion.

“In dissent, Chief Justice Roberts rightly observed that the Court’s marriage opinion has nothing to do with the Constitution. Justice Scalia observed that the Court’s opinion was so contrary to law that state and local officials would choose to defy it.

“For every politician — Democrat and Republican — who is tut-tutting that Davis must resign, they are defending a hypocritical standard. Where is the call for the mayor of San Francisco to resign for creating a sanctuary city — resulting in the murder of American citizens by criminal illegal aliens welcomed by his lawlessness?

“Where is the call for President Obama to resign for ignoring and defying our immigration laws, our welfare reform laws, and even his own Obamacare?

“When the mayor of San Francisco and President Obama resign, then we can talk about Kim Davis.

“Those who are persecuting Kim Davis believe that Christians should not serve in public office. That is the consequence of their position. Or, if Christians do serve in public office, they must disregard their religious faith–or be sent to jail.

“Kim Davis should not be in jail. We are a country founded on Judeo-Christian values, founded by those fleeing religious oppression and seeking a land where we could worship God and live according to our faith, without being imprisoned for doing so.

“I call upon every Believer, every Constitutionalist, every lover of liberty to stand with Kim Davis. Stop the persecution now.”

(since states won’t stand up and fight) they have been in charge.

Absolutely.....They have allowed the camels nose under the tent and whenever you do the the rest of the camel soon follows. it's a fact...

Having said that, The States are in a "tricky wicket" as the Brits are fond of saying..In my view, it is the other co-equal branch of government that needs to oppose the SCOTUS decision by passing retroactive law to dismiss it, and another law to reign in the law making propensity of the Court. The States can try to evade, slow, and confuse the federal response, but they will lose in the end without assistance by congress or by a large group of states banding together.

OK.....I don’t have access to much media except internet streams....and FR..

I had no doubt which side Cruz would take. What baffles me is the response today by a lot of conservatives, like National Review.

Yes, you are so right. If the states would stand up and say this is a state issue we wouldn’t have so many sorry laws being passed at a federal level. It will take more than one or two states though, it will take all or most of them.

Back in 2012 I came to the conclusion that we need to tear it all down and start over...

That’s about as blunt as I can make it..

“Where is Trump?

Where is Bush?

Where are all the rest?

Where is our congress?”

Some of them appear to be hiding behind Obama’s skirt.

Alternatively, she should point out that Kentucky really doesn’t have law on the books right now regarding gay marriage (or at least a “valid” law, following the SCOTUS decision), and they need to actually write that law so she can follow it (or not).

I do like the idea of shoving their premise back in their face by granting for the sake of argument that the marriage statute has been legitimately invalidated and is void, therefore she has no authority to issue any marriage licenses at all. But does the Supreme Soviet also have the authority to also invalidate or nullify State Constitutions?

Only a marriage between one man and one woman shall be valid or recognized as a marriage in Kentucky. A legal status identical or substantially similar to that of marriage for unmarried individuals shall not be valid or recognized.
Kentucky Constitutional Amendment 1

Cruz is not out of line at all on this.

Cordially,

I’ve met David Bunning on several occasions and I was flabergasted at his ruling.

Well, I am 65, and I have watched the US slowly but certainly descend into a European Socialist Democracy as we enter a post Constitutional period.

The only way out is likely going to result in a civil war.

There are no good choices.

But I will most certainly fight in any way I can.

It’s quite possible that current events will lead to a opportunity within my remaining lifetime. It may not be as hard to do as some think, if we use some global catastrophe as a backdrop and be ready when it comes.

So I have some hope remaining..:-)

I had a conversation with a lib about this today. They are a devout pacifist. I told them they should be required to have a AR-15 in their residence with ammo a carry a hand gun at all times when in public and allowed by law.

They told me that goes against their beliefs and they would do it. I told them they would be forced to got to jail until you did. However, they said this case was different.

For rulers are not a terror to good works, but to the evil.

And if the rulers are evil, then what?

This is a nation of laws, sadly, nowdays we pick and choose which laws to follow and allow bad laws to be enacted.

Your statement is bold; however, sorely lacking facts. Kim Davis was not arrested for violating a law; she was arrested for violating a judges order. There is no law, there is only opinion of unelected judges. You confuse the rule of law with the rule of men and by doing so you sacrifice self-destiny and freedom for tyranny and servitude.

...Now if the government had come up with something else to call the union, like Frbzzyk, she might not have had a problem. But she is being asked to put her Jane Hancock not on a Frbzzyk but on a Marriage. She is saying there is no such thing."

Amazing people don't get this. Her conscience can not allow her to violate the Constitution, nor, more importantly, God's Law. I feel sorry for those who don't see the utter simplicity behind this. They are already deceived into believing this is a simple 'just quit your job if you don't agree' issue.

This strikes at the very core of America's religious liberty standards which have stood, until now, since the founding of this nation. The real goal is to push Christians and those of conscience out of every realm of the public square. They are attempting to make an example out of Mrs. Davis to strike fear in the hearts of others in attempt to keep them in line.

The judge could have fined her, instead he chose to put her behind bars along with the (attempted) humiliating mug shot. Acting like an A#1 jackboot.

I feel that Ms. Davis could really have turned this whole argument on it’s head by, instead of saying she couldn’t issue the license because of her beliefs (it’s too easy to tell her to resign), saying that she is following the letter of Kentucky law.

Absolutely no where in the Constitution does it say that the SCOTUS has the right to nullify state constitutions.

I am so glad that Senator Cruz is standing strong in defense of religious freedom.
