Obama has been an exemplary first lady and is extremely popular with the public, having shown good humor and style throughout her tenure; so it’s been very difficult for the right to find anything to criticize.That hasn’t stopped them, of course. There is nothing even remotely controversial about her work with military families, a constituency they feel belongs to them, so anything they might pounce on there is an unlikely target for GOP ire. But this mother of two daughters having the temerity to initiate a program to encourage kids to eat healthy foods and exercise has sent them into fits of hysteria.

Michelle Obama has endured an orgy of insults from the likes of Limbaugh and Palin. But her legacy will exceed anything those two have ever done. If, in spite of tremendous gridlock and partisan obstructionism, her efforts have helped to stall the epidemic of childhood obesity and educate the government and the public about the necessity of eating healthier and getting some exercise, then she’s done more than 90 percent of the U.S. Congress to better the lives of the American people.

wow - I guess we hit a nerve there. Don’t remember anyone at Salon upset about the hideous attacks on Sarah Palin.

Difficult to find anything to criticize about the first “lady?” Are they kidding?
What about all the endless vacations for her, her mother, and her daughters at the tax payers expense? Imagine the media firestorm if a Republican first lady tried that crap.
And who died and made her the commissar of the school lunch program? What right does she have to dictate what school children eat for lunch, when Moochelle eats anything and everything she wants?
Michelle herself won’t hear anything about this discussion, she’ll be ‘real busy’ on her 2nd or 3rd pre-vacation vacation.

Well, I don’t remember ever hearing anything about “her work with military families,” but I know she’s always on vacation with a contingent of clingers-on.
Moochelle and Jill Biden did some commercials saying how much they care for military families.....but that was in 2012, an election year. After the election, no more commercials.
