Donald Trump's rhetoric on immigration has sparked his surge in the polls. But it is his economic critique of the GOP, and his attack on the financial corruption of the Republican donor class and leadership, that is a mortal threat to the party.
Over the weekend, Byron York reported on Donald Trump's efforts to form a "comprehensive" plan on tax reform. He has signaled an interest in raising taxes on the richest Americans, and he has set his targets on the carried-interest loophole favored by hedge fund managers. He has said repeatedly that hedge funds pay too little in taxes, and that he himself is willing to pay a larger share to "make America great again." Trump has essentially said that his preference is for middle-class tax cuts.

Nationalist policies tend to be conservative, but not always. Huey Long for example.
I’m fine with him being a nationalist. As you aptly pointed out, most of his nationalist views are actually recognizable as conservative. Keep in mind that “conservative” only sells to the 53% (per mittens). We need to reshuffle the cards.
I don’t know about that 53% figure.
Reagan drew more than 53%.
Trump is going to please enough Republicans to get a large general election turnout. He is going to pull independents and some Democrats. I think he garners more support from Blacks and Hispanics that we have gotten in the past.
This bodes well for us IMO.
I said the other day I expect a very lopsided vote. I may be wrong. He may not even be the candidate. Who knows?

I feel like it’s a runaway train. How can any entity get so far in debt? $18 trillion. 94 million unemployeed. 30 million illegal aliens. The ME falling apart. Corrupt media. Who has been managing this? It’s ridiculous.
Trump has given us a vision of a solvent country, a secure country, a powerful country, a thriving country. When was the last time we had that?
Exactly. Superrich oligarchs who give the GOP leadership orders that they expect to be followed aren't exactly stirred up by threats from Turn the Tide ghetto-rat leaders to murder white people at random. Their security details and trained drivers would never let that happen to them, so what's the prob?
Invading hordes? Lovely -- crush wages! Democrat dictatorship for as far as the eye can see? No sweat -- they're all bought. Defamation of American historical character and exemplars? No sweat -- "Hey, ho, go with the flow!" </off Doonesbury Buddhists>
You'll love the future -- the superrich have such big plans. Maybe not including you, but maybe so, if you suck up enough and shake it over here, boss.
Many of the big business cronies are democrat, perhaps more than republicans.

Both parties are infested with then.
But my point still stands that no one represents the middle class.
The Democrats are smart enough to have their fake middle-class economics, which is just rebranded socialism.
The Republicans don’t even bother pretend to care for the middle class.
