More Than Half of Immigrants on Public Assistance
Western Free Press ^ | September 1 2015 | Steven Hayward

Posted on 09/02/2015 6:01:58 AM PDT by george76

51 percent of immigrant households—both legal and illegal—receive some kind of public assistance, versus just 30 percent of native households. Whether immigrants contribute more to total economic activity or public revenues greater than they receive in benefits is not addressed in this report, and remains a subject of fierce controversy.

...

This study is the first in recent years to examine immigrant (legal and illegal) and native welfare use using the Census Bureau’s Survey of Income and Program Participation (SIPP). While its complexity makes it difficult to use, the survey is widely regarded as providing the most accurate picture of welfare participation. The SIPP shows immigrant households use welfare at significantly higher rates than native households, even higher than indicated by other Census surveys.

...

As Milton Friedman used to say, you can have a generous welfare state, or you can have high rates of unskilled immigration, but you can’t have both for very long.

When I brought my wife and son back here in 1976, to get her Green Card, I had to swear in an affidavit that I would never allow her to become a public liability. It was a long hard 7 years of English and grammar, Constitutional knowledge and multiple interviews before she got her citizenship.

Today it’s “I’m a Muslim refugee scared of the dark or just a Mexican Dreamer” and you’re a citizen.

I’m so ^%#*^% mad about this! My wife came from another country. I had to sign paperwork saying she would not be on any kind of public assistance for five years. Mow people come in the country illegally and their first stop is the welfare office. My wife is P.O. about this too.

Hey, why not? Let’s let the whole freakin world into America so they can live off the taxpayer’s dime. The open borders Welfare State is a national suicide pact.

THE DIRTYY LITLE SECRET IS:
That many/most of the legal third world immigrants wee take in each year are no better, no more educated than the illegal aliens.

Blame this on our family re-unification immigration policies where a dim bulb third world immigrant from say Guatemala or Bangladesh can bring in lots of family once he becomes a US citizen. Bring in children, sisters, brothers, parents (to retire here on SSI) and so on. I am sure that if many were DNA tested they would be shown to be complete frauds who paid him a few thousand dollars.

I remember during the 1980's when the Vietnamese boat people were denounced for being a huge drag on public assistance. But yet, these immigrants worked HARD to end the need for public assistance and today, they are about to become a very powerful economic and political force in the country. Indeed, I've always said the next Republican governor of California will likely be of Vietnamese descent.

NO immigrants should be on welfare - we should only allow those to immigrate who are better than our average, who CONTRIBUTE to this country! Our system is completely screwed up, and there is one cause - the Democrats didn’t like the mid-century electorate, which basically didn’t like them all that much, so they decided to change voters. Since that time it has all been down hill - and if there is ever an amnesty and 30 million new Democrat voters come on to the scene, the country is simply OVER. If we lose on that issue, then no other ones matter - because we will NEVER win on ANY other issue, for the rest of our lives. Literally, our very nationhood is at stake.

Immigration is THE issue of the campaign...that is why I have gone from viewing Trump as a clown, to admiration for his guts, to full-on support for him. I love Ted Cruz, but I don’t think that he has as much of a chance to win as Trump, because he won’t appeal to as many Dems and Indies as Trump does. IMHO, we have to tone down the rhetoric (not give up on these issues, mind you, ONLY tone down on the rhetoric) on abortion, gay marriage, etc. - to focus on immigration and what the Dems have already done to this country.

Mow people come in the country illegally and their first stop is the welfare office. My wife is P.O. about this too. Ditto for me and my wife, we are carbon copies of each other in this regard. I had to prove to the INS that I had enough income to support her...which I didn't mind, because it made sense to me (and still does). What infuriates me is the current system, and how nakedly it feeds the Democratic Party. That the GOPe hasn't seen this (or, maybe, just doesn't care) is why I am supporting Trump at this point. Enough is enough!

That paperwork is still signed it is just that is not enforced...and never has been.
When I first went to work for the welfare department here in 1980 I had a legal immigrant come in and sign up for MediCal. California’s Medicaid. She brought her green card and everything. I went to my supervisor and said...but don’t they sign something saying they won’t receive aid? Her answer was...oh we don’t pay any attention to that.
