ABC News ^ | September 1, 2015 | Benjamin Bell and Ali Weinberg

So you support a group of Washington insiders ignoring the will of the people in sovereign states?

That precisely should be the argument, not that it’s an affront to Ohioans.

Same with same sex marriage etc. This should be decided by the states. I’m not sure why there is any federal land in any of the states.

Most people looking at the new name are going to think it’s named after a South American pop star.

Or a shoe.

Please don't put words in my mouth.

I am in favor of the people of a state informing congress as to their wishes regarding the name of this mountain, but I recognize that under our system of governance, Congress has the final say on it.

If the people of Alaska will try to convince congress to change it, I support their efforts.

I do not support their efforts to ignore or revoke a specifically and lawfully enacted congressional law.

Mountain named for a slain president

Actually it was named for congressman running for president in an attempt to get him more name recognition.

We don't agree. Do you think Congress should be allowed to change the name of your high school if they find the name offensive to some, regardless of the local opinion? Names of towns?

If the people of Alaska will try to convince congress to change it, I support their efforts.

That has gone on for decades, including official acts through the state government. That has been ignored.

What is Trump’s position with Hamilton on the $10 bill?

That is the primary reason for why this act is objectionable. It is not about who's feelings get hurt or salved, it's about the fact that Obama has crossed the Rubicon into Dictatorship.

It is about the fact that he has done something which he has no legitimate power to do, in contravention of our system of government.

This is a threat to the very foundation of our Government, and it should not be brushed aside lightly.

This act is very significant in what it represents. It represents a Dictator who is intent on Defying the legal authorities who exist as a check to his power.

Same with same sex marriage etc.

Agreed. Just a different set of dictators, three of which were supplied by Obama, and for which he ultimately bears responsibility.

The same place they get the authority to raise taxes on people regardless of the opinions of those who pay them.

I looked through Article I, Section 8, Clause 1 of the United States Constitution. I don't find it.

Did you mean another section of the Constitution? Could you please reference it?

If the land is Federal Property to which the FedGov holds the title, then yes, I think they can name it anything they D@mn well please.

On Private or State owned Land? No.

Are you even comprehensive of the difference? Are you one of those people who has no understanding of Federalism, of the distinction between "State" and "Federal" governance?

Of which duties and powers lay one way, and which lay the other?

That has gone on for decades, including official acts through the state government. That has been ignored.

State acts don't affect Federal Property. South Carolina can't rename "Ft. Sumter" into "Ft. Jefferson Davis." They don't have that power because they don't own the property.

The Indians never climbed it. You don’t get to name it unless you conquer it. That’s the rules.

Oh yes we have. Every 7th grader is required to take Ohio History - so, yeah we know which presidents were from Ohio.

Whatever the d@amn well please is a good description. The "official" naming in 1917 was part of the land grab by the Federal Government for "national" land inside a territory.

Do you support congress acquiring land for the federal government to lock away from state and private ownership? Do you see this as an abuse of power above what was described in the Constitution?

The first to climb it, Hudson Stuck, in 1913 pleaded to have the original name "Denali" restored.
