I cannot believe this drivel....and I am largely accustomed to the nonsense the NYSlimes puts out on a regular basis.

"devilish new campaign" "lightly adapted versions of potent battlefield weapons" "haunt society"

The AR-15 is no more an assault rifle than the 10/22. It is a NEUTERED gun in the fact that it is not full auto, nor does it offer 3 round burst fire. In fact this gun is not allowed for hunting in many states because the SMALL ROUND is not considered in ETHICAL KILL.

Absolutely pathetic that this magazine is not bankrupt yet. I cannot wait for the day when they go belly up.

[potent battlefield weapons like the M-16 rifle. Renamed the AR-15]

Only an idiot liberal reporter believes the M-16 was renamed to an AR-15.

Stupidity reigns in the media. Which is how we got people like Brian Lyin’ Williams.

It couldn’t be that the gun was popular with 3 generations of vets because they are used to it? That the army uses the design because it’s ergonomically easier to use? Nope. It’s a plot by evil gun industry!

Cool! Looks like another reason to say goodbye to Wal-Mart, if you haven't already "dialed back" all the competition!

Oh well. Guess it doesn't really matter where I shop. What do I care if the stores I support cave to the gun-grabbers, the homosexual-trans-LGBT lobby... Heck, it's only a purchase! Why should we be the ones to make any noise. Sure could go for a Starbucks, though, before I head on over to Walmart..

Renamed the AR-15, this semiautomatic assault rifle has come to haunt society in the hands of criminals and the deranged, who regularly kill innocent people in high-powered mass shootings.

Considering there are overwhelmingly more of these rifles in the hands of those who conduct themselves sanely and without violence against innocent people, I suggest it might be easier to contain the criminals and the deranged than round up all the rifles.

That said, What is a "high-powered mass shooting"?

How does that compare with a low powered mass shooting?

Define "regularly" as in "regularly kill innocent people in high-powered mass shootings"?

Absolutely pathetic that this magazine is not bankrupt yet. I cannot wait for the day when they go belly up.

I agree, but that won't happen because Carlos Slim (worth about $80 billion, richest man in Mexico by a lot, and probably richest in the world) won't let it. He needs lots of Mexicans in the US to send money home so that native Mexicans can pay more for cellphone service than we do here, with 5-10 times the per capita income. For that to happen, Slim needs a captive and influential voice in the US...and he saved them in 2008 from bankruptcy to buy the kind of coverage and editorials about immigration that he wants. As a bonus, he gets to try to disarm the Gringos.

Immigration is THE KEY ISSUE of this election - if we lose on that, we are completely done for, because there will be 30 million more Dem voters. We won't win on guns, abortion, marriage, taxes, trade, international relations, defense...you name it, and we will lose. Read about it in Ann Coulter's "Adios America."

“No one knows how many people have been killed by assault weapons on the civilian battlefront.”

Don’t let the gun grabbers define the terms. AR-15s are firearms, not weapons.
They certainly aren’t “assault weapons”.
They want to make the argument that the 2nd doesn’t protect our guns.

Good heavens, can the Times get any more hyperbolic. The number of deaths each year from AR shootings is minuscule. In 2011 just over 300 murders in the US were committed using rifles, so the number using AR’s would be considerably smaller than that. More people are killed with hammers.

If society is haunted about these rifles it's due to demagoguery such as this by political hacks in the media like the Times.

Deliberately casting your eyes on anything in the NYT is the equivalent to deliberately wading into a cesspool past your eyebrows.

high-powered mass shootings

As opposed to low-powered mass shootings?

What sort of drugs do they take to come up with this garbage? Of course, liberals and the LIV crowd lap it up without questioning the absurdity.

More than 30 gun companies now make AR-15s. Almost 8.5 million assault rifles have been either manufactured in the U.S. or imported here since the 1990s, according to the NSSF.

It’s a wonder that half the population hasn’t been murdered. /s

Just another reason not to go to Walmart. We’ve had problems with our local Walmart. For one thing, many of their Chinese produced products are poorly made. Product selection is another item. They drive local businesses into bankruptcy, then fail to stock items the local store would have had. Food is another sore point as I get alarmed at the number of severely dented cans and outdated dairy items (especially yogurt). Their “fresh” produce always looks like picked over seconds. And I’ve yet to recover from the “ammo shortage” where employees failed to put merchandise on the shelf and sold it to their friends. Things are so bad that I pay more at Food Lion (also not among my favorite stores) and drive 20-50 miles for hardware items. So, go ahead and do away with a quality American made product Walmart. I’ll add it to my reasons to avoid shopping with you.

I believe it was the New York Slimes that called for a ban on ALL semi-auto rifles several years ago when a man armed with an M-1 Garand fired one round and kill another. One round.
