That Time Donald Trump Had A Meeting With DREAMers And Said "You Convinced Me" On Immigration

Two years ago, Trump met with immigration activists who told them their stories and asked for his support on immigration. "You convinced me" Trump said as the meeting ended.

On an August day two years ago, Donald Trump was in a much different place: He was just a billionaire with the simple goal of connecting his beauty pageant business with the upcoming Hispanic Heritage Awards.

So at his New York penthouse office atop Trump Tower, he convened a meeting.

Trump ushered in a pair of men - one to talk about the awards and a Democratic strategist who works with nonprofits - and three young DREAMer activists. ...

But he also kept asking, "Can't you just become a citizen if you want to?" No, we can't the activists said, there's no process for that. Trump was reflective, the activists sad.

"You know, the truth is I have a lot of illegals working for me in Miami," he told them, using the term for undocumented immigrants those in the meeting found offensive.

...

"At the end of the day, what we're looking at is a value proposition for America," Tijerino said to Trump at the end of the meeting, referring to immigration legislation.

"You've convinced me," Trump said to the delight of the activists in the room.

"We all smiled at each other and said, 'Wow, we did it, we got this guy to change his mind," Pacheco said. Two years later they see a showman just playing to the crowd.

That’s probably true. I wonder who will get ‘punked’ by Trump next.

Blame Cruz for Trump’s talk on single payer and on and on and on and on and on and on?

That’s the ticket!

Maybe I can give a better suggestion.

Instead of the parade of articles about Trump saying XYZ to bait these guys so you can belittle them, why dont you get articles on the guy you do support giving position statements and their policy ideas and flood FR with those?

You aren’t winning support for X candidate by running against Trump. Hate him all you want, buy while everyone else was BS-ing the summer away, he actually stated positions (believe him or not) on important issues, that as we can see, most of the others are not willing to take.

That’s not Trump’s fault, and sitting here parading “see what he said here” so and such years ago isn’t covering up for their failure to have staked out these positions before Trump got in.

People KNOW that he has moved about. He’s a businessman. They move about as they get more information on things they never claim to have 10000% nailed down.

He might have been convinced back then, and later on he got more info and then came to a better conclusion. He isnt an ideologue, but he is willing to learn. And for a lot of people that is good enough as long as he brings some passion to it.

Nah, actually I’m working towards an ambassador slot in TheDonald Administration. To a COOL country with nice scenery and things to do. None of that central Asian or sub-Saharan-Africa crap. :-)

I think you read through my post(s) too fast. Look at my tagline. I’m not sure if you are sarcastic or what. Please explain.

weird how the hit pieces of Trump are now coming out by a couple of freepers. Coincidence nope.

Seems the trolls and the establishment are doing their usual tactics and I;m not a Trump supporter, but I do support people who are fed up of PC

I expect we will see many “do it again expect different result” voters here. (if only EVERYONE would vote for candidate X we would have X win and do things differently)

We probably have a few campaign camp trolls also.

I suspect p_r_s is practicing sarcasm... although I really had to study his posts in the aggregate to be (kinda) sure.

This is very vague. They don’t say what Trump was referring to when he was “convinced.” Besides, Trump’s plan allows illegals to come back in legally, so isn’t that what these people wanted in the end?

Trump might be in trouble over the illegals working for him though, since I think he said in speeches he doesn’t have any working for him. But realistically, I think we could all assume he’d probably be unaware if some slipped through. For golf course maintenance, he might be contracting an outside firm and wouldn’t know what their hiring practices are.

But a couple links away from this article around this same time, Trump endorsed McConnell...

http://www.nbcnews.com/news/other/iowa-donald-trump-warns-republicans-about-hillary-immigration-f6C10893666

He did say of Republican Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell — who is facing a primary challenge from a wealthy tea party candidate and a potentially stiff general election contest: “It would be a shame if he didn’t win, because he has such power, it’s so good for his state.”

“One only has to see how Trump goes back and forth between taxing the wealthy more than now to a flat tax and back to loving a progressive tax code.”

I believe it was brought to your attention a day or so ago when you said basically this same thing that it was NOT true. Yet....here you are claiming this as fact again. Now why is that?

How about the country of Mexico as an internment camp?

They have to go home in order to apply to,come back

The ones who comply get first priority to legalize

America is not going to intern any ethnic groups on our soil

Just because a task is overwhelming does not mean it must not and should not be attempted

A traditional hit piece? Yawn...

Yeah, it’s either Trump is evolving or the media is using Trump’s words against him or “its all lies I tell you!” or its now a hit piece that we hear continually here at FR. LOL.

What next, aliens from outer space are invading the U.S.?

The excuses for continually drinking the Kool-Aid are getting rather laughable.

It’s a Trumpapalooza of derogatory terms for Trumpies. They’re Trumpettes, Trumpers, Trumpezes, Trumpians, Trumpaloompas, whatever works!

And they’re all like Ron Paul supporters. Did you hear they had to ban people at a ‘conservative’ website for supporting this commie Trump guy? What IS the world coming to?

Why can’t they just support Marco Bush and the Walkerettes like good conservatives?

Since you can’t convince us why not go preach to the undecided masses and get them to love your candidate of choice ? At this point the only one who can convince us that Trump is unworthy.... Is Trump

Better use of your energy to start some Hooray Ted/Carly/Huckster/Walker/Yeb discussions since they’re almost all in single digits or low teens in the polls

If you are on Donald’s sh*t list and you are in his way, he will smile at you and shake your hand while he leads you out of his office. And in walking you to the door as he smiles he might just say sarcastically “you convinced me” with a smirk.

And after he shuts the door he will admonish his gatekeepers to never let such people in his office again.

In Las Vegas the casino owners are similar but can be more passive-aggressive. There’s an anecdote about Steve Wynn after having been told of a customer at the tables hitting on the girls and calling them whores. After the customer was asked politely to refrain from that behavior, the customer continued and actually grabbed one of the girls.

Because the customer was known to be well-to-do, and because he had lost a very large amount at the tables he was ‘warmly greeted’ by a ‘smiling’ floor manager who told him that Mr. Wynn had heard he was in the casino and would he please accept Mr. Wynn’s invitation to have the pleasure of meeting him in his office. The customer entered Mr. Wynn’s office, warm smiles were on everyone’s faces all around, and Mr. Wynn smiled, shook his hand, offered him a chair and the following exchange occurred:

“Mr. Jones, So glad you came to visit us today!

“Thank you Mr. Wynn.”

“You find everything comfortable? Satisfying?”

“Why yes!”

“Food good? Have you been treated well?”

“Yes! Yes!”

“I heard you lost quite a lot at the tables, how much?”

“Yes, well about 100 grand give or take.”

Steve Wynn pulls out a drawer at his desk, grabs the casino checkbook inside, writes a check for $100,000 and presents it to the customer.

“Mr. Wynn thank you!”

Mr. Wynn leads him to the door and tells the customer sternly and aggressively:

“Don’t ever badmouth or touch any of my employees in my casinos again! Now get the Hell out of here and don’t ever come back!”

Now if Steve Wynn was running for President, the Press would lead with this headline:

“STEVE WYNN REIMBURSES UNDER THE TABLE FAVORED CASINO CUSTOMERS FOR CASINO LOSSES!”

Sorry, my sarcasm tag key seems to be broken.

An illegal alien told me that Trump stole it, so I know that’s really what happened.
