NEVER, NEVER mix ammonia and chlorine. It won’t help get your toilet any cleaner and you just might be charged with using WMDs.

Yup, don't piss in the toilet after cleaning with bleach until you flush it.

Don’t ever mix ammonia and chlorine outdoors .... and NEVER pour the resulting mixture down a groundhog burrow.

When I first joined the Navy we had a guy try ammonia and then Comet to clean a shower. In addition to the respiratory effects he also had some difficulty due to the use of soft contacts which I guess are gas permeable.

I worked at P&Gs most PROFITABLE plant in the entire US. Buckeye Cellulose in Perry Florida. We made the purest filter paper stock and textile thread stock there was. Choice plantation pine, a closed cooking, washing, bleaching and formation process with steam generation and liquor recovery/regeneration. Lots and lots and lots of chemicals.

In the bleaching plant where I automated it, the chrome in the bathrooms on the top floor were all black. Pipes had to be lined with nylon like inserts and made from 316SS or better. A nasty building. I had to quit after I accomplished the main goal because of all the people missing arms, fingers, etc. Too many damn nip points in the whole sequence.

It took me a hear to get that smell out of my nose, and I can smell a pulp plant miles off to this day.

If the battery cooked and foamed, and the odors of cooking covered it up then fumes coming from the garage could do this.

Something spicy like slow cooking curry might cover up a sulphur stench enough for the people in the house not to identify it.

Call in the “Fringe” Division.

By the way, the Jeffrey Alan Lash story seems to have disappeared.

Not likely chlorine gas, as it is evident well in advance of entering a concentration zone.

There was an interesting episode of CSI where a little bag of pellets were dropped into a fireplace that poisoned the air in an apartment. This reminds me of that sort of thing, for some strange reason.

HCl (chlorine stripping hydrogen from water) causes burns and hemorrhaging of mucosa and lung tissue. Persons exposed get a whiff and run if that option is available. Enough chlorine to quickly incapacitate persons inside a structure would linger and be evident to responders.
