Trump reverses on Kelly: 'She was very nice'
Washington Examiner ^ | 8/26/15 | Eddie Scarry

Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump may be ready to finally call it quits on the Megyn Kelly trash talking.

Trump said in a radio interview with Laura Ingraham on Wednesday that he watched Kelly's Fox News show the previous evening and that he liked it "very much."

"Actually I watched her show last night, she was very nice and I appreciated it," Trump said of the Fox anchor he has criticized since the network's GOP presidential debate in early August.

Asked if he was done with the fight, Trump said that he is and that he had spoken with Fox CEO Roger Ailes.

"Roger Ailes is great," Trump said. "Roger Ailes is a special guy. He's a good friend of mine. We just spoke two minutes ago and Roger Ailes is a great guy and no, I have no problem and I actually liked her show very much last night, if you want to know the truth."

Trump's feud with Kelly goes back to the first Republican presidential debate, hosted by Fox in early August. There, Kelly asked him to defend his previous public comments about some women being "pigs" and other disparaging things. Trump went on a media tour after, charging that Kelly's questions of him were "unfair."

When Kelly went on a vacation thereafter, Trump said in interviews and on social media that it was probably because he attacked her. When she returned to her show on Monday, Trump posted negative messages on Twitter about her and her performance.

Ailes released a statement Wednesday calling on Trump to apologize for his comments about Kelly but Trump has declined, maintaining instead that Kelly should be the one to apologize to him.

A spokesperson for Fox did not return a request for comment.

Here’s the deal. NOBODY CARES about how a news broadcaster is treated.

Not completely true, though; we care how everyone is treated. In fact, it's a good way to "judge" people; how they treat the "least of these." -Matt 25:40

I’m happy Donald apologized. Some of his supporters will say that’s “weak”— but I think it’s a sign of a “real man.”

Ratings. This "feud" is as phony as a three dollar bill. Sure, Trump may have been POed at the time, but he's been on Fox shows about 10 times a week ever since. Like he says, he and Ailes are friends. There's no real grudge here.

Trump was pretty clearly upset with Kelly to the point he was rage tweeting, but in the end he needs Fox News more than Fox News needs him. Trump is still getting almost glowing nightly coverage from Greta and Hannity and that is better than he is going to get anywhere else.

The campaign is just beginning and though polling very well for the moment, to alienate Fox News (the only major network even remotely fair to Republicans/conservatives) would be idiotic. Trump is smart enough to know better.

This spat makes both sides happy. Trump can hate on Fox News for a bit which might please some voters who detest Fox News and make Trump look more independent, and Fox News gets to look more divorced from the GOP and therefore more "balanced". And of course all this sets up the inevitable Trump interview on Megyn Kelly's show. And that will happen at some point.

Ted has always been able to outargue the media. But he was never attacking them head-on.

It’s the media that is on trial in America and Ted I think finally saw that he needed to be an adversary to them just as Donald Trump is.

Unstable... 4 years of this (redacted) is going to get old quick.

Don’t like what Trump had to say? Wait a few days and you will hear the polar opposite ...

Geez.

America is doomed.

There are men all over the world waiting for apologies from women, and they are waiting for them in divorce court. Men who apologize to women, however, no matter the infraction, and who was responsible or not as the case may be, oftentimes have marriages tallied in decades, not years.

Kelly might be the demise of Trump.

Respectfully, it is obvious his ego is a large part of his appeal. I don't want another slack handed milquetoast politician deferring to Putin, Xi Jinping, Ayatollah Khamenei, al-Baghdadi, or King Salman al-Saud. I want a President that can act to make sure the USA comes out on top however long it might take.

Cruz could have mowed her down. I am not sure what got into him.

Not sure if this is a factor or not, but Cruz has a pathetic communications guy on his campaign. This is a DC consultant who is a pansy coms guy. I would hope Cruz is not listening to him....but maybe he is.

I do not trust Trump.

At all.
