We’ve ignored a reason for homicides of blacks: Look at the enemy within.

When it comes to the causes of homicide among black people, there’s something a lot of black people are saying among themselves: It’s not all due to institutional racism. Few dare say it publicly, lest some animus-filled, right-wing conservatives hail you as their kind of black.

But the subject must be broached, especially now that homicides are spiking like mad in urban areas throughout the nation. If racist cops are part of an institutional threat to black people, there are also black men and women dying at the hands of people who look like them. It is the enemy within. Call out one, you have to call out the other.

In the District, there have been more than 100 homicides this year — a 30 percent increase from this point last year.

“People want to know why there has not been a clear answer given, and that’s not to say that there is an easy answer,” D.C. Council Chairman Phil Mendelson (D) told The Washington Post last week. “But first we were told by the mayor that it might be synthetic drugs or domestic violence, then it was illegal guns. . . . Layer over that changing explanations, and it gives people cause for real concern.”

People want a clear answer for what’s causing the homicides? It’s not illegal guns. It’s not the synthetic drug K2. It’s not “domestic” violence. It’s killers causing the killing — and a disproportionate number of those doing the killing are young black men between 18 and 29. They are deadly, reckless and irresponsible. They hide in our midst, growing ever more confident that you can get away with murder — especially when the victim is black.

Now that you have recognized the true cause of this horrible mass murder problem, what are you going to do about it?

After the mass murder by a white man at the Black church in Charleston SC, the first thing I wondered about was how many other Black church members had been murdered by Black persons since the church opened 200 years ago.

That, of course, is not a subject that will be investigated by the MSM.

I think your numbers must come from some kind of subset of total homicides.

There were 14,200 total murders in the USA in 2013.

About 10,000 of those murders were by firearms, so it can’t be that, because that doesn’t match your data, either.

Also, about 30%-35% of USA murders do not result in an arrest, so the “Unknown & Other” column doesn’t make sense, either.

Yes a subset.. I included links to the FBI sources. The explanations are there for all who trouble themselves to view. For example..

A visit to one of the FBI Table Six data reveals the totals are representative of those agencies that provide race and ethnicity breakdowns. Not all agencies provide the data.

So the FBI freely admits the data for FBI Table Six are a subset and the FBI provides details about the data that are available to the FBI.. here is copy of information available from the FBI at the link I provided for 2013. All the other links to FBI data for the respective years show similar information.

• Of the 12,253 murder victims in 2013 for which supplemental data were received, most (77.7 percent) were male. (Based on Expanded Homicide Data Table 1.)
• Concerning murder victims for whom race was known, 51.7 percent were black, 45.7 percent were white, and 2.5 percent were of other races. Race was unknown for 147 victims. (Based on Expanded Homicide Data Table 2.)
• Nearly 47 percent (46.7) of all murders for which the UCR Program received supplemental data were single victim/single offender situations. (See Expanded Homicide Data Table 4.)
• Of the offenders for whom gender was known, 89.3 percent were male. (Based on Expanded Homicide Data Table 3.)
• An examination of data regarding the offenders for whom race was known showed that 53.6 percent were black, 43.9 percent were white, and 2.5 percent were of other races. The race was unknown for 4,112 offenders. (Based on Expanded Homicide Data Table 3.)
• Sixty-nine percent of the homicides for which the FBI received weapons data in 2013 involved the use of firearms. Handguns comprised 68.4 percent of the firearms used in murder and nonnegligent manslaughter incidents in 2013. (Based on Expanded Homicide Data Table 8.)
• In incidents of murder for which the relationships of murder victims and offenders were known, 55.9 percent were killed by someone they knew (acquaintance, neighbor, friend, boyfriend, etc.); 24.9 percent of victims were slain by family members. The relationship of murder victims and offenders was unknown in 45.5 percent of murder and nonnegligent manslaughter incidents in 2013. (Based on Expanded Homicide Data Table 10.)
• Of the female murder victims for whom the relationships to their offenders were known, 36.6 percent were murdered by their husbands or boyfriends. (Based on Expanded Homicide Data Tables 2 and 10.)
• Of the murders for which the circumstances surrounding the crimes were known, 39.6 percent of victims were murdered during arguments (including romantic triangles) in 2013. Felony circumstances (rape, robbery, burglary, etc.) accounted for 24.4 percent of murders. Circumstances were unknown for 36.2 percent of reported homicides. (Based on Expanded Homicide Data Table 11.)
• Law enforcement reported 742 justifiable homicides in 2013. Of those, law enforcement officers justifiably killed 461 felons, and private citizens justifiably killed 281 people during the commission of crimes. (See Expanded Homicide Data Tables 14 and 15.)

I'm not questioning the data, just the confusing way you presented it.

The FBI publishes other data tables on murder-by-race that are much more helpful, and much easier to understand (I'll find one for you this afternoon when I have more time).

For instance, “homicides,” used in your data, include things like self-defense, and justified police shootings, and vehicular manslaughter, which disguise the full extent of Black-on-white violence.

Also, the FBI counts Hispanic murderers as “white.” Thus, when a Hispanic gang banger murders a Black gang banger in a drug deal, the FBI counts that as a “white” person murdering a Black person, which makes the white offender data look worse than it really is.

Finally, your data are also distorted by the fact that many Black witnesses are unwilling to testify about Black-on-Black murders, which means a much higher percentage of Black murders have an offender of “unknown” race, even though the race is obviously Black in most cases.

Federal crime statistics are a rebuttal to the race-grievance industry lies. It'll take a long time to sort out that mess. :)
